Plastic Logic Showcases Display Tiling Capability

LONDON - Plastic Logic, the recognised leader in the field of plastic electronics, will be demonstrating the versatility of its flexible plastic display technology, including the ability to seamlessly tile its displays, at the upcoming "UK Plastic Electronics Show 2012" (booth 1132) in Birmingham, UK.

On 7 and 8 November 2012, visitors to the "Advanced Engineering UK group of events" at the Birmingham NEC will have the chance to experience Plastic Logic's innovative flexible plastic display technology (http://www.plasticlogic.com/technology) firsthand on its booth number 1132. For the first time, Plastic Logic will publicly showcase the tiling capability of its displays. The nature of the Plastic Logic backplane technology is such that it is possible to cut very close to the active area of the display, without damaging the display performance. This means the gap between two displays can be reduced to an absolute minimum (as opposed to when tiling glass-based LCD displays) while maintaining the ability to flex or add conformally to a shape. Plastic Logic has the ability to laminate several displays together with great accuracy.

The company will also demonstrate a range of its displays, which are fully plastic-based and can be manufactured in colour and monochrome, as well as in a wide variety of shapes and sizes. Capable of showing pictures, text and video animation (12 fps), these displays are super-thin, ultra-light, robust and extremely low power.
Furthermore, this flexible display technology is shatterproof and daylight readable and can be viewed from almost any angle.

In addition to its exhibition booth, Plastic Logic has been invited to give an industry presentation as part of the plastic electronics programme. On 7 November at 11 a.m., Jim Watts, Principal Engineer at Plastic Logic will speak during the flexible displays session. In addition to an overview of the company's unique, organic electronics-based flexible display technology, the presentation will provide an insight into further process development, as well as new technologies currently being developed based on the same organic thin film transistor (OTFT) technology. The presentation will also elaborate on possible applications of the displays, which are manufactured in the Plastic Logic production facility in Dresden, Germany, the world's first plastic electronics factory.

Plastic Logic's flexible display technology enables a wide range of applications for both smaller and larger plastic display solutions, including paper replacement, e-readers and companion products to smart phones. The company is also pursuing opportunities for the integration of its technology in non-imaging applications.
