Planet Live Tool Allows Continuous Duty Cycle
Planet Products Corporation announces it's new line of live tools for turret lathe applications. By leveraging over a decade of experience with coolant powered hydraulically driven tools, Planet takes a unique approach to overcoming the duty cycle limitations of standard tools.
Existing technology live tools are restricted to limited run time due to frictional heating of the bearings and seals. Using a patent pending bearing lubrication and cooling system, the Planet Live Tool (PLT) has no restrictions on cycle time or duty cycle, thus allowing near-continuous machine cycles on turret lathes. This can allow a reduction of number of tools, or permit jobs that previously ran on a multi-spindle machine to be run on a turret lathe.
Project manager Brian Conroy states: "We developed this technology to overcome problems with long cycle time cuts in our machining operations. The existing tools require extensive service when used in extreme cycles. Our tool ran 24 hours continuously in testing without significant temperature rise."
