Turbocraft Announces New PID Support for Opto 22 FactoryFloor and ioControl Users

Company's New Offerings Enable Easier Control Programming

Temecula, CA - August 19, 2002 - Tukwila, WA-based Turbocraft, Inc., an engineering services company specializing in factory automation and machine design, has announced the release of two new PID control products for users of the Opto 22 FactoryFloor® and ioControl(TM) software suites. PID control typically involves complex math functions that are used for applications in temperature, pressure, and flow regulation, process control, and industrial automation.

Turbocraft's new PID_Control installer, when implemented, installs a complete, ready-to-use FactoryFloor project for PID control. The PID_Control installer provides both an OptoControl(TM) strategy with an OptoDisplay(TM) operator interface as well as a subroutine named PID_loop_SG which is used as the basis for a fully functioning control strategy that includes trending. Users need only configure their controller(s) and change the input and output scales within OptoDisplay, and the strategy is ready to be downloaded to the controller and launched.

Also, for users of ioControl, Turbocraft is offering a new PID_Control_IO installer that provides a ready-to-use ioControl strategy with trending in an ioDisplay(TM) interface.

Both of Turbocraft's new offerings promise users greater programming versatility and significant reductions in their control program development time by providing an easier method of creating PID control loops. Time savings resulting from the use of these products typically deliver 100 percent return on investment after their first use.

"I had an extensive background in programming but had never used FactoryFloor before," says Emory Young, Sr. of Certified Electric, Inc. "The Turbocraft subroutines have worked very well for me and helped me work more efficiently within the FactoryFloor environment. Using them in my programming, I was able to put together a project and save a lot of time and money in the process."

Turbocraft's PID_Control installer comes with a comprehensive user's manual and is priced at $395. The PID_Control_IO with manual is priced at $375. Both products are available now directly from Turbocraft at www.turbocraft.com.

About FactoryFloor

FactoryFloor 4.0, the newest version of Opto 22's widely deployed software suite for process control and industrial automation, is designed for use with Opto 22's widely deployed line of powerful, stand-alone industrial controllers including the popular M4 series. Using FactoryFloor 4.0, users can develop control programs, design easy-to-use human-machine interfaces, expand their manufacturing systems' connectivity, and complete their control automation projects faster, cheaper, and more easily than ever before.

Priced at an industry low $349 USD, the FactoryFloor 4.0 software suite comprises four powerful, integrated components: OptoControl(TM), OptoDisplay(TM), OptoServer(TM), and OptoConnect(TM). OptoControl is a flowchart-based control programming environment that allows users to develop control and data acquisition applications quickly and easily; OptoDisplay is the graphical HMI package for designing human-machine interfaces; OptoServer provides OPC and DDE connectivity between Opto 22 systems and Microsoft Windows-based computers; and OptoConnect creates a bi-directional data transfer link between the Opto 22 controller database and Microsoft's SQL Server or Access databases.

About ioControl

ioControl from Opto 22 is a flowchart-based control programming software suite for use with SNAP Ultimate I/O(TM), the latest in the company's successful line of industrial automation products and the first system of its kind to effectively combine I/O, control, networking, and enterprise connectivity into a single, cohesive package. Based on Opto 22's proven and widely deployed FactoryFloor software, ioControl lets users develop control and data acquisition applications that execute at an I/O system level. Control engineers can program with an extensive, self-documenting, plain-English command set or utilize an advanced scripting tool for complex functions such as math, control loops, and string handling. This versatility gives less experienced engineers, as well as those who are advanced programmers, a means to accomplish their goals.
