Sensors Unlimited Introduces Industry's First 1024 Element Linear InGaAs Photodiode Arrays for Spectroscopic Applications
Princeton, NJ, March 11, 2003 - Sensors Unlimited, Inc., a leading provider of innovative solutions based on indium gallium arsenide (InGaAs) technology, today announces the SU1024LE(TM), the industry's first 1024 element linear Indium Gallium Arsenide (InGaAs) photodiode array. This announcement confirms Sensors Unlimited's intention, following its October 2002 return to an employee-owned, privately-held American company, to renew its R&D efforts in the military and industrial spectroscopy markets, which have provided the foundation for the company's achievements-to-date.
"Sensors Unlimited continues to lead the optoelectronics world in InGaAs detector and imaging products," remarks Dr. Marshall Cohen, president, Sensors Unlimited. "As with all our products, the SU1024LE is processed using wafers up to 4 inches in diameter, a manufacturing capability pioneered by Sensors Unlimited that results in high yield and rapid delivery."
The SU1024LE is an extended 1024 element array, twice as long the SU512LD. It features photodiodes on a 25 micron pitch and a readout integrated circuit (ROIC) with antiblooming capability.
The ROIC was designed by Sensors Unlimited to include antiblooming for extended intrascenic dynamic range. Antiblooming prevents the spread of charge to neighboring pixels from an oversaturated pixel. This enables techniques for extending the dynamic range with progressively oversaturated acquisitions that pull small signals above the noise floor.
The length of the array is ideal for spectroscopic applications requiring a 1" focal plane, as many existing spectrometers utilize, for wide spectral coverage in one acquisition. The standard 500 micron pixel height provides a highly efficient size for optical signal collection.
The SU1024LE array is pin compatible with previous linear arrays for ease in upgrading. It builds upon Sensors Unlimited's previous industry leading arrays, including the 256LX-series and 512LD-series devices used for spectroscopy, machine vision and
optical network monitoring applications.
