Sipex Introduces Photo Detector IC for Home DVD Players


Sipex Corporation today announced its first photo detector IC specially designed for the home DVD player market. The SP8042 features 7 channels, 55MHz bandwidth, and the industry's lowest operating current of 10.5mA. With a low output noise level of -80dBm, the SP8042 allows for data recovery at very low light levels and support for lower reflectivity DVD+RW/-RW media. A built-in media switch selects one of two photo detector arrays, for either CD or DVD. In addition to standard COB packaging, the SP8042 is offered in wafer shipments, providing flexibility for customers to leverage their own low-cost assembly processes.
