Pervasive Software Unveils Hyper-Parallel Java Development Framework to Unleash the Power of Multi-Core Processing

AUSTIN, Texas, May 2 // -- Pervasive Software(R) Inc. (NASDAQ:PVSW), a global value leader in embeddable data management and integration software, today announced its weapon for Java developers wanting to tackle the multi-core hardware/software divide: Pervasive DataRush(TM). As affordable 4-, 8- and even 16- or 32-core SMP servers proliferate, software developers need to rapidly build the next generation of scalable, high- performing applications to crunch through massive data volumes with ease. Pervasive DataRush, which will debut at the 2007 JavaOne Conference, is designed to meet that need.

The challenges posed by data proliferation are daunting. According to Rick Burns of the Winter Corporation, "The rapid growth in data volume and shrinking data processing cycles confronting business applications pose increasingly intractable performance and scalability challenges. Today, companies rely on expensive, proprietary parallel systems to address this problem. The advent of multi-core processors is revolutionizing parallel processing hardware economics. But building parallel software, especially for data intensive applications, remains complex, time-consuming, and error-prone. Users and developers need parallel software tools that revolutionize software technology and economics, to allow them to easily and inexpensively exploit multi-core technology to load, process, and analyze growing data volumes faster."

Pervasive DataRush provides a 100-percent Java framework that lets developers quickly and easily create hyper-parallel data-intensive applications. The framework insulates developers from the complexity of concurrent programming, automatically scaling to leverage additional SMP cores while managing threading, queuing, memory management and deadlocks. Pervasive DataRush provides connectivity to a range of data sources and targets and will incorporate an Eclipse-based development studio for rapid design, testing and debugging.

"After four years of intense development, we're excited to let Java developers play with a unique Java framework capable of hiding the complexity of parallel processing while leveraging the power of multicore processors," said Mike Hoskins, chief technology officer of Pervasive. "Pervasive DataRush has been the compute-intensive execution engine inside our Pervasive Data Profiler(TM) product for more than two years, and now we're ready to open up the power of the development framework to the entire Java community."

Pervasive will be offering a hands-on preview of Pervasive DataRush at Booth 527 at JavaOne. In addition, Pervasive Solutions Architect Jim Falgout will present the framework in more detail at a JavaOne technical track session titled "Unleashing the Power of Multi-Core Processors: Scalable Data Processing in Java(TM) Technology" on May 8 at 6:00 p.m. PDT.

Now in beta release, Pervasive DataRush is available as a free download at www.pervasivedatarush.com/ . Additionally, the company is working with partners and customers to deploy applications based on the framework.

Pricing and Availability

Pervasive DataRush is currently available for free trial download at pervasivedatarush.com/downloads and the company is actively working with early adopters to create sample applications and benchmark libraries. Pervasive anticipates general availability later in 2007, with plans to offer free academic licenses and commercial test and development usage. Pricing for deployed applications on the Pervasive DataRush platform will be announced at a later date.
