NXP Software Teams with Mango Research on High Performance Personal Navigation Device

TAIPEI, Taiwan and EINDHOVEN, Netherlands, March 21 -- NXP Software and Mango Research Corp. today announced the first GPS product design to result from collaboration between the two companies. The Mango Research Magic 380 is a complete Personal Navigation Device (PND), which has an ideal form factor for in-car use. Its performance and small size result from a groundbreaking application of NXP Software's swGPS Personal software GPS Baseband technology.

For the first time in a handheld device, NXP Software's swGPS Personal performs all the signal processing necessary to measure GPS satellite signals and calculate your position entirely in software. Running on the handheld device's normal processor, it eliminates the need for a separate GPS baseband processing chip, saving board space and boosting performance. Plus, with GPS functionality handled in software, the device can be easily modified or upgraded without the need for hardware changes.

The Magic 380 benefits from Mango Research's leading consumer electronics design expertise and NXP Software's swGPS Personal software to target drivers' pursuit of maximum mobility. Besides offering high performance, the Magic 380 is easy to carry around and use in and out of vehicles. Its compact and fashionable design makes it attractive to users looking for a superb digital experience for both work and play. With its excellent user interface, it requires no training or prior experience to operate.

"NXP Software's swGPS is an evolution in the GPS world. We are happy to have designed the Magic380 around this differentiated solution, resulting in a quicker response, better accuracy and more flexibility for future upgrades", says B.C. Kuo, Vice President, Research & Development, Mango Research.

"We are very pleased to be working closely with Mango in bringing this innovation to market. Mango is leading the way in introducing attractive new GPS products and making GPS accessible to all consumers, and we are delighted to help make this possible through swGPSTM.", says Dr. Chris Marshall, General Manager, NXP Software, Location Technologies

The device features a high performance Samsung 32-bit application processor and NXP Software's swGPS Personal with a Maxim RF front end. It also includes a Samsung high brightness TFT touch panel display, powerful crystal-clear stereo audio and optional external RDS/TMC modules for real-time traffic messages and other content services.
