Personal Impactor collects coarse/fine/ultrafine particles.

Press Release Summary:

Sioutas Cascade Impactor separates and collects airborne particles in 5 size ranges: greater than 2.5 micron, 1.0-2.5 micron, 0.50-1.0 micron, 0.25-0.50 micron, and less than 0.25 micron. Unit is used with PTFE filters for minimal particle bounce and preservation of unstable compounds and clips to worker's collar or lapel for personal or area sampling. Optimal particle separation at specified cut-points is achieved when used with Leland Legacy Sample Pump at 9 L/min.

Original Press Release:

Personal-Size Cascade Impactor for Coarse, Fine, and Ultrafine Particles

SKC Inc., Eighty Four, PA - SKC announces the availability of the Sioutas Cascade Impactor, the only personal impactor that precisely separates and collects coarse, fine, and ultrafine particles. The Sioutas Impactor separates and collects airborne particles in five size ranges: >2.5 micron, 1.0 to 2.5 micron, 0.50 to 1.0 micron, 0.25 to 0.50 micron, and <0.25 micron. The highly efficient Sioutas Impactor is used with PTFE (Teflon®) filters for high collection efficiency, minimal particle bounce without impaction grease/coatings, and preservation of unstable compounds for chemical analysis of the different fractions. Optimal particle separation at the specified cut-points is achieved when the Sioutas Impactor is used with the Leland Legacy Sample Pump at 9 L/min. Small and lightweight, the Sioutas Impactor clips easily to a worker's collar or lapel for personal sampling and is suitable for area sampling.

Recent epidemiological studies show that fine and ultrafine particles may have greater pulmonary inflammatory potency than larger particles and associate increased morbidity and mortality with increased exposure to these particles.
