Particle Image Analyzer is offered with extended range kit.

Press Release Summary:

Based on digital image analysis and automated microscopy, Morphologi G2 measures particle size using circle equivalent diameter and employs variety of parameters for particle shape analysis. This enables determination and quantification of differences between particles. Extended range accessory kit, comprised of low magnification objective and wide field of view condenser, lends upper measurement limit of 3,000 microns to system.

First time at Analytica for Malvern's Morphologi G2 - Introducing an Extended Measurement Range

Plus - Zetasizer Nano goes from strength to strength

At Analytica 2006 (25-28 April 2006, Munich) Malvern Instruments will exhibit the Morphologi G2 high sensitivity particle image analyzer, introducing its newly extended measurement range accessory kit. Launched at the end of last year, the Morphologi G2 is based on digital image analysis and automated microscopy. It measures particle size using circle equivalent diameter, and employs a variety of parameters for particle shape analysis. This enables the determination and quantification of even small differences between particles.

The Morphologi G2's new extended range accessory kit comprises a low magnification objective and wide field of view condenser element. This widens the dynamic range considerably by extending the upper limit of measurement from 1000 to 3000 microns. This will expand the number and type of applications for the G2. Customers in the pharmaceutical industry studying the granulation process, and in the nuclear industry studying functional bead production, are already seeing the benefits.

With a focus on biotechnology and life science applications, Malvern's Zetasizer Nano will be amongst the systems on display. The Zetasizer Nano is now the most widely used light scattering system for the size measurement of particles and molecules. It is designed specifically to meet the low sample volume and high sensitivity requirements essential for protein characterization. Recently publicised applications include the analysis of therapeutic proteins, and its use in a programme of research to investigate the potential for development of a topical microbiocide against the HIV/AIDS virus. Here it was used to characterize the zeta potential of CD4+T cells over a range of conditions relevant for microbial infection.

Easy to use and measuring molecules as small as 0.3 nm hydrodynamic radius, the Zetasizer Nano offers the high sensitivity required for the measurement of solutions of proteins. Furthermore, size trends as a function of pH or additive concentration, for example, can be automated by coupling it to the MPT-2 autotitrator. www.malvern.co.uk
