Panel PC with Pentium 4 Power - Flexible, Powerful and Reliable

Siemens Automation and Drives (A&D) has equipped its scalable Simatic Panel PC 870 with Pentium 4 processors. Sufficient reserves of performance are provided by as much as three GB of RAM, hard disks of up to 80 GB and a DVD-ROM/CD-RW drive. An optional mirror-disk system raises the level of availability;
the Simatic PC DiagMonitor diagnostic and alarm software provides support during diagnosis and monitoring. The new devices are particularly suited for machine-level, industrial operation in tough environments at temperatures from 5 to 50 degrees Celsius and with impact loads of up to 5 g acceleration of freefall.

Typical applications are demanding visualization tasks and the processing of large volumes of data.

Depending on the main application, the panel PC is fitted with a 2.4 GHz Pentium 4 processor, a 2.2 GHz Pentium 4 Mobile or a 2.0 GHz Celeron processor. A wide range of interfaces are integrated for the connection of external hard disks, optical drives or other input/output devices: Profibus, 10/1 00 Mbit Ethernet and high-speed USB2.0, as well as one parallel and two serial ports. In addition, the Panel PC 870's offer five
PCI/ISA slots and are compatible with their predecessors. All the familiar TFT displays are available in 12" and 15" versions, with the option of keyboard or touchscreen operation. When equipped with mirror disks compliant with the IDE RAID1 system
(Redundant Array of Independent Disks) and Simatic PC DiagMonitor, the new PCs are particularly reliable in operation.

All Simatic PCs are equipped with various safety functions, e.g. with shock and vibration-damping mountings for the hard disk, "restraints" for inserted modules and thermostatically controlled fans. The interfaces are designed for environments with a greater risk of corrosion. The wide-range power supply for 110/230 Volt AC power supplies can bridge momentary voltage failures of up to 20 milliseconds in accordance with the Namur recommendation.

The Simatic Panel PCs are designed to be easy to service and maintain. All major components - such as display front, hard disk, expansion card, processor, memory module and power supply unit - can be replaced quickly and easily. The supply of spare
parts is guaranteed for five years beyond the date at which the product is discontinued.
