Lumex Introduces Panel Indicator Which Allows LED Light Source to be Remotely Located Up to 800 Feet Away

PALATINE, IL--Lumex, Inc. is announcing its new LPI-C011701S Series of Remotely-Lit LED Panel Indicators. This passive light guide carries light from an LED source to a front panel, display, switch, or any location up to 800 feet (250 meters) away. Lumex's Remotely-Lit LED Panel Indicator allows the design engineer to place the LED light source according to the dictates of the circuit board layout, with the light itself appearing in a location that best suits the ergonomic requirements of the product. Not only does this newest member of Lumex's Light Pipes family allow the design engineer unprecedented packaging freedom, it also simplifies product assembly, reduces installed cost, and increases product reliability. Lumex's Remotely-Lit LED Panel Indicator is made of UL 94V-O clear polycarbonate. One end includes a 7mm (0.28-inch) round lens which mounts through any front panel of 1.8 - 4.8mm in thickness (0.071 - 0.189 inches). This lens is available in a wide range of colors. The other end fits over an LED, and it snaps into the printed circuit board. In the middle, a flexible "light transporter" accommodates virtually any bend or curve, allowing the plane of the front panel to be at any angle or offset, relative to the plane of the circuit board containing the LED. Maximum length is 250 meters (800 feet). Although these panel indicators are custom-configured to each specific application, a unique manufacturing process eliminates any need for custom tooling. The result is significantly reduced lead times, low minimum order quantities, and zero tooling charges. Samples of Lumex Remotely-Lit LED Panel Indicators in a typical configuration are available from stock. Production quantities of application-specific units are available in 6 - 10 weeks. Pricing starts at $1.80 each in quantities of 1,000 pieces, and varies depending on color, length, lens options, and quantity ordered. Lumex's Remotely-Lit LED Panel Indicator is the latest addition to Lumex's new line of Light Pipes passive light guides. A comprehensive Design Guide, with information on 50 different Light Pipes models, is available free of charge from Lumex, under part number 2004-29.
