Panasonic Industrial Company Launches Seven New Electromechanical Product Series

Secaucus, NJ (August 17, 2009) - Panasonic Industrial Company's Electronic Components Group, a worldwide leader in electromechanical components, introduced today seven new electromechanical product series including detector switches, light touch switches, center space encoders and potentiometers to the U.S. Market.

"As a global leader in electromechanical components, our newest series of switches, encoders and potentiometers further underscores Panasonic's commitment to continue to deliver broader, more efficient, cutting edge, human interface solutions to the industry," said Jerry Deng, Panasonic's Senior Electromechanical Product Specialist.

Panasonic ESE-16 Series Detector Switch - Designed for space saving and minimum intrusion, the ESE-16 is a one-pole-one-throw, normal-open detector switch that features one of the industry's smallest form factors (3.35mm x 2.2mm). It has a body height of 1.5mm and an actuator height of 2.5mm. It can be actuated both vertically and horizontally, at a small actuation force of 250mN max. The ESE-16 is ideal for the consumer electronics, office automation and handheld device industries for detection of mechanical movements, battery replacement, and status of camera and optical drive doors.

Panasonic ESE-58 0.9mm Series Detector Switch - Designed for space saving, durability and power reduction, the ESE-58 has one of the industry's lowest profiles and smallest volumetric sizes (3.5mm x 3.0mm form factor, 0.9mm body height). The ESE-58 features both left-to-right and right-to-left lever options, allowing actuation from both directions and comes with both normal-open and normal-close circuit options, reducing power consumption. Users can actuate the switch both vertically and horizontally and two optional positioning bosses underneath the switch provide mounting assistance and durability. The ESE-58 is ideal for the consumer electronics, office automation and handheld device industries for detection of mechanical movements, battery replacement, and status of camera and optical drive doors.

Panasonic EVP-AD 10mm Series Center Space Light Touch Switch - The EVP-AD is one of the industry's first push-on switches with a center space design and comes in a small-footprint (10.15 x 9.8mm form factor, 4.6mm height). The 4.2mm hollow center allows designers to insert a Chip LED for integrated lighting function. The EVP-AD offers a high degree of flexibility in LED choices, enabling designers to complete the design with the right color and intensity. With an operating temperature range of -40 to +85C, the durable EVP-AD is designed for automotive, appliance and industrial applications such as mode adjustment and selection, volume control and on/off buttons.

Panasonic EVQ-P6 4mm Series Light Touch Switch - Panasonic adds a ground terminal option to its popular EVQ-P6 Light Touch Switch Series. The ground terminal protects the circuit and its sensitive IC from external ESD noise which can transfer from a human interface. The EVQ-P6 Series features a space-saving paper-thin form factor (a height of 0.35mm without push plate and 0.58mm with push plate). The new variation with ground terminal stays true to the paper-thin form factor, adding only 0.08mm to make the total height 0.43mm. The EVQ-P6 is designed for handheld equipment applications such as mode adjustment and selection, volume control and on/off buttons.

Panasonic EVQ-Q0 Series Double Action Light Touch Switch - The EVQ-Q0 Series is designed with double action -- two actuation steps - and for side-operation where the actuation angle is horizontal to the PCB; a method frequently used for the side buttons on handheld devices. The EVQ-Q0 Series' rugged design also addresses a common problem for side operation switches known as "peel-off" where the switch is more prone to be "peeled off" from the PCB at the solder joint, due to sudden external force impact such as dropping the device on the ground. EVQ-Q0 solves this issue by side mounting the switch on a cut-out edge of the PCB, such that external force is transferred to the PCB instead of the solder joint. This method is 3-to-4 times stronger than conventional mounting methods.

The EVQ-Q0 Series comes in a 6.2 x 3.75mm form factor with a 3.5mm body height. In the edge-mounted version, the height measured from PCB is only 1.35mm. First actuation is 1.0N force with 0.4mm travel, and second actuation is 2.6N force with 0.5mm travel. Both actuations provide tactile click feedback to users. The EVQ-Q0 is designed for handheld device and digital camera applications such as side buttons and camera shutter buttons with auto focus functionality.

Panasonic EVQ-V0 60/40mm Center Space Encoders - The EVQ-V0 Series has a small footprint (10.15 x 9.8mm) and features a large hollow center (42.4mm diameter) giving designers ample room to place LEDs, switches and other components in this center space. The addition of a larger rotation ring than previous versions provides a smooth and comfortable grip for users with a maximum wobble of only 0.25mm. It also includes 30 crisp detents for smooth rotation and tactile feedback. The EVQ-V0 Series is designed for automotive and audio/visual applications such as mode adjustment and selection, volume control and on/off buttons to integrate control functions and reduce clutter.

Panasonic EWV-YE Series Center Space Potentiometers - The EWV-YE Series features a large hollow center (20mm diameter) giving designers ample room to place LEDs, switches and other components in this center space. Compared with encoders, potentiometers offer absolute position control. The large rotation ring provides a smooth and comfortable grip for users and comes with 3 standard detent options, 29 detents for temperature control, 8 detents for fan speed, and 5 detents for mode adjustment. Other options include integrated LED, low torque and customized detent positions to suit the users specific needs. The EWV-YE Series is designed for automotive and audio/visual applications such as mode adjustment and selection, and volume and temperature controls to integrate control functions and reduce clutter.

Panasonic also offers many other detector switch, light touch switch, center space encoder and potentiometer solutions to suit a wide range of human interface needs.
