October 2004 -- The unique design of the new Motor-controlled Zero-Pressure Accumulator (MZPA) conveyor from Alba Manufacturing makes pallet accumulation simple and reliable by eliminating pneumatic clutches, zone-to-zone chains and PLC controls. Photoelectric sensors directly control the MZPA conveyor's 230/460 VAC motors, and every accumulation zone is driven with a separate drive, eliminating mechanical and pneumatic components and associated maintenance costs.
The MZPA conveyor is standard equipped with the new Allen-Bradley Bulleting 22ZC plug-and-play zone control boxes, developed jointly by Allen-Bradley and Alba. With a minimum profile height of 6 inches, a single MZPA conveyor can be configured in up to 12 zones in lengths of 4 to 6 ft.
All controls, photo-eyes and motor starters are self-contained, pre-mounted and pre-wired before shipment, and the 24VDC power supply is included in the master control box. Installation is easy and simple since only 3-phase power must be brought to the master control box, minimizing field wiring time and costs. The all Allen-Bradley solution also means local support is available throughout North America.
Programmable time delays before zone advance, a "sleep mode" and signals for flow control logic are all standard on the MZPA, increasing flexibility, eliminating programming costs and cutting the cost of operation. Special control options include E-stop pull-cord support and a "fork-truck present" signal to delay zone advances until the discharge zone is empty and/or the operator signals it to advance.
The wash-down version of the MZPA conveyor for pharmaceutical and food applications is equipped with NEMA 4X electrical enclosures, zinc Flo-Coat rollers, wash-down motors, plated shafts and galvanized frames. Optional stainless steel construction is available.
