Oracle Fusion Middleware Sets World Record SPECJAppServer2004 Performance Benchmark with HP Integrity Server Blades
Oracle® Application Server Outperforms Best Results from IBM and BEA
ORACLE OPENWORLD, SAN FRANCISCO, 13-NOV-2007 05:00 AM Oracle today announced that Oracle® Application Server 10g Release 3, a component of Oracle Fusion Middleware, together with Oracle Database running on HP Integrity server blades and an HP StorageWorks 8100 Enterprise Virtual Array (EVA8100) set the overall world record for the highest ever Java Application Performance Benchmark.(1) Outperforming SPECjAppServer2004 benchmarks from IBM(2) and unseating BEA,(3) this world record result demonstrates Oracle's commitment to providing customers a standards-based application server with unmatched performance, scalability and manageability.
Oracle Application Server 10g Release 3 together with Oracle Database achieved 10,519.43 SPECJAppServer2004 JOPS@Standard (jAppServer Operations Per Second). The Java Application Servers were running on 12 HP Integrity BL860c server blades, with the latest two Dual-core Intel® Itanium® 1.66 GHz processors running in the HP BladeSystem c-Class c7000 enclosure. The database server was running on an HP Integrity Superdome server with 40 Dual-Core Intel® Itanium® 1.6 GHz processors and an HP StorageWorks EVA8100. Both application server and database tiers were running HP-UX 11i v3. Reaching the highest performance ever achieved with the SPECjAppServer 2004 benchmark, these results surpassed the best SPECjAppServer2004 benchmark results from BEA WebLogic by 27 percent and IBM WebSphere with IBM DB2 UDB 9.1 by more than 140 percent.

Over the past five years, Oracle has submitted record-setting application server benchmarks on a broad range of hardware and software platforms. SPECjAppServer2004 is a multi-tier benchmark for measuring the performance of a representative J2EE application and each of the components that make up the application environment, including hardware, application server software, JVM software, database software, JDBC drivers and the system network. The workload is an application that emulates information flow among an automotive dealership, manufacturing, supply chain management and an order/inventory system.
