Optical Cable Assemblies can run up to 100 m.

Press Release Summary:

Offered in Quad Small Form-factor Pluggable (QSFP) connector format, PARALIGHT cable assemblies deliver 40 Gb/sec Quad Data Rate (QDR) speed and can run up to 100 m, with longer lengths being evaluated. Low weight and small size facilitate effective routing of significant numbers of cables in clustered systems. Cable assemblies are suited for applications in intra- and inter-cabinet links.

o QDR Speed Applications

Tyco Electronics announces the introduction of its new 40 Gb/s Quad Data Rate (QDR) speed PARALIGHT cable assemblies in a Quad Small Form-factor Pluggable (QSFP) connector format. This new cable assembly can run up to 100 meters, although longer lengths may be possible and are being evaluated.

"As QDR speeds become a larger segment of the market, active optical PARALIGHT cable assemblies become increasingly economically viable for both intra- and inter-cabinet links," comments Dennis Hess, business development director. "In addition, the much smaller and lighter optical cable becomes more of a necessity in terms of lower weight and size to accommodate increases in air flow needs and effective routing of significant numbers of cables in clustered systems."

Tyco Electronics has already demonstrated market viability with volume deployment of Double Data Rate (DDR) 20Gb/s speed QSFP and CX4 optical assemblies. Tyco Electronics was the first to have DDR assemblies approved by the InfiniBand Trade Association (IBTA) to run at 100 meters.

"Tyco Electronics is committed to maintaining a position of industry leadership with the introduction of the 40 Gb/s QSFP PARALIGHT optical cable assemblies," adds Hess. "We believe we are the first to introduce assemblies that are both cost effective and available in volume."
