Original Press Release:

More Performance and Brilliant Graphics for Human Machine Interfacing

Siemens Automation and Drives (A&D) has improved the performance of its Simatic Panels of the 270 class and provided them with brilliant graphics and a new industrial design. In addition to the 10" device, there is now also an 8" Multi Panel version as well as a Mobile Panel with 8" touch screen for mobile use.

The new Simatic TP 277 Touch Panel and the OP 277 Operator Panel for machine-level human machine interfacing is now available with a brilliant 6" TFT display and a new industrial design. As well as high performance, the devices offer USB, MPI/DP and Ethernet interfaces, for Profibus and Profinet, for example. The 4MB user memory can be expanded for archives and recipe data using the MultiMediaCard slot. The new devices replace the previous TP 270 6" and OP 270 6" devices. The new MP 277 10" Multi Panel has been equipped with significantly more performance power as the successor to the 10" versions.

The Simatic MP 270B Multi Panel has been generally overhauled and offers significantly more performance than before. In addition to the 10" version, there is now also a new 8" device, both with a brilliant TFT display. The Multi Panels, each available with touch functionality or as a key-operated version, use the new Windows CE 5.0 operating system. The 6MB user memory offers sufficient space even for comprehensive projects including recipes and archives. The Panels are connected to Profibus and Profinet using the integral MPI/DP and Ethernet interfaces.

As an accessory for the new Multi Panels, there is a rugged industrial USB hub in degree of protection IP65 with four interfaces accessible from the front and the rear. This allows I/O devices such as USB sticks or printers to be connected quickly to the Panels without opening the cabinet door and interrupting operation of the plant.

The new Simatic Mobile Panel 277 in degree of protection IP 65 is suitable for mobile and flexible use at several connection points. It has a brilliant 8" TFT touch screen with 65,536 colors, as well as eighteen LED membrane keys. As recipient of the iF product design award 2006, this device guarantees fast device power-up after it has been plugged into the connection box. Power-up time is eliminated completely by using an optional battery pack. In safety-related applications, the connection box Plus enables flexible connection/disconnection during operation thanks to a patented system that closes the emergency-off circuit automatically and without interference. Integral connection point detection assigns operator displays unambiguously to the correct location in the plant. The 6MB user memory can be expanded by another memory for archive and recipe data. The new 277 Mobile Panel with integral acknowledge key and Profibus/Profinet connection is available in two further versions: one with Stop pushbutton and one with handwheel, key-operated switch and two illuminated pushbuttons.

The new Panels have a non-volatile, maintenance-free message buffer and are configured with WinCC flexible 2005. This guarantees functional integration when it comes to operation, configuring, data exchange and networking.
