Rockwell Automation Expands Allen-Bradley PanelView Plus Line

New operator interface terminals conserve space and cost without sacrificing performance

MILWAUKEE, March 11, 2004 - OEMs and end users are forever striving to pack maximum functionality into the smallest amount of space, and now they can easily and cost-effectively achieve this desired balance with two new compact operator interfaces from Rockwell Automation. The Allen-Bradley PanelView Plus 400 and PanelView Plus 600 terminals offer all of the standard preconfigured elements available with larger PanelView Plus models, but in a smaller size.

In addition to their space- and cost-efficient features, the terminals provide users with advanced functionality including animation, trending, data logging, and object math and logic expressions - all valuable for improving operator efficiency, optimizing processes, and diagnosing problems virtually anywhere on the plant floor.

"Many small graphic terminal users sacrifice functionality for size," said Joe Novak, product marketing manager, Rockwell Automation. "With these new models in the PanelView Plus line, choosing a smaller operator interface doesn't have to mean fewer features. While keeping costs low, we're able to offer the full functionality users have come to expect from models with larger screen sizes."

PanelView Plus 400 and 600 terminals offer a FSTN display that provides 32 levels of grayscaling at 320x240 QVGA resolution. For color applications, the PanelView Plus 600 also features an optional color active matrix TFT at 320x240 QVGA resolution. The color displays feature 18 bits of color depth with a CCFL backlight for superior imaging of process and diagnostic information.

All new PanelView Plus models feature keypad input terminals for numeric entry, screen navigation and programmable function keys. PanelView Plus 600 users also can specify an analog resistive touch screen or combination keypad/touch if they prefer. Like all models in the PanelView Plus line, the PanelView Plus 400 and 600 terminals include a USB port for peripheral device support and a compact flash card slot for data storage and file storage and transfer.

For distributed or complex applications requiring networked programmable logic controller (PLC) communications, the new terminals are available with RS-232, onboard Ethernet networking and an interface that allows simultaneous communications with multiple networks. Users also can add optional communication modules for connectivity for DH-485, DH+ and Remote I/O networks.

To help reduce installation and maintenance costs, the PanelView Plus terminals feature a patent-pending mounting mechanism that requires just a single cutout; no tools are needed for terminal mounting. In addition, a removable terminal block makes it easy to change parts or upgrade the system.

PanelView Plus 400 and PanelView Plus 600, now available, are part of Rockwell Automation's ViewAnyWare strategy, which is designed to offer a consistent, scalable and unified suite of monitoring and control solutions for the entire manufacturing enterprise.
