Openwave Announces Mobile Browser Integration for QUALCOMM's BREW Solution

Handset Manufacturers to Benefit From Standardized Device Integration With Openwave Mobile BREW Browser, Mercury Edition

LOS ANGELES, CTIA IT & Entertainment, Sept. 12 /-- Openwave Systems Inc. (NASDAQ:OPWV), the leading independent provider of software solutions for the communications and media industries, today announced the availability of a reference device layer that enables handset manufacturers to greatly reduce time to market when integrating the Openwave Mobile Browser, Mercury Edition, for QUALCOMM's BREW® solution.

Openwave's device layer implements a standard set of APIs that integrate the Openwave Mobile Browser, Mercury Edition, for the BREW solution. The Openwave reference device layer for the BREW solution is now available to handset manufacturers who want to upgrade to or implement the latest Openwave Mobile Browser, Mercury Edition.

"By offering handset manufacturers a standard integration layer between the Openwave browser and the BREW solution, we are vastly reducing time to market and eliminating the need to create 'one-off' device layers to integrate the two offerings," said Olivier Bartholot, head of the client business unit, Openwave. "We look forward to working more closely with QUALCOMM to simplify the process for handset manufacturers integrating our market-leading products."

"The Openwave browser offers advanced browsing, and by using the BREW solution, reduces deployment time and costs for handset manufacturers," said Mitch Oliver, vice president of solutions and marketing for QUALCOMM Internet Services. "The BREW solution shares a common goal with the Openwave mobile browser -- both are designed to help operators and handset manufacturers quickly drive fully featured handsets into the mass market and simplify the discovery of advanced data services."

The Openwave Mobile Browser, Mercury Edition, enables both increased access to Web content on mobile devices and a faster experience. The Mercury Edition browser is part of the Openwave Mobile Phone Suite, which also includes Openwave Mobile Integrated Dynamic Application System (MIDAS), a user experience engine designed to enable the creation, customization and deployment of powerful new applications and interfaces for mass market mobile phones. More than one billion handsets with Openwave software have been shipped. In addition, 51 device manufacturers have licensed the Openwave Mobile Browser.

Openwave's messaging, location, browsing and content services span networks and devices. Today, Openwave software is used by more than 100 mobile operators, broadband providers and Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNOs) to enable access to data services for more than 500 million consumers around the world.

The BREW solution drives the discovery and delivery of wireless data services. BREW customers can benefit from several offerings, which include: uiOne(TM) for rich, integrated and dynamic user experiences with fast access to high revenue services on wireless devices; deliveryOne(TM) for differentiated and tightly integrated, operator managed support and delivery of advanced wireless data content and services; and marketOne(TM) for a quick- to-market, hosted, scalable content delivery service that includes media titles, flexible management and monetization, content provider settlement and business intelligence services. QUALCOMM offers this comprehensive set of BREW offerings to meet the distinct needs of companies delivering mobile products and services around the world.
