Oil Spray System facilitates blank preparation.

Press Release Summary:

Oil Reapply System is an automatic, self-contained, air-assisted system that provides fine layer of lubricant on blanks or coils prior to stamping process. At 12 in. in width, system can be integrated into existing blank or coil washers, or used as stand-alone fluid applicator. Relative to feed speed, low setting yields 30 mg/ft² while medium setting yields 60 mg/ft² and high setting 90 mg/ft². Integrated mist collection ducting ensures containment of VOC emissions.

Original Press Release:

Utica Automation Simplifies Blank Preparation with New Oil Reapply System

Shelby Township, Mich., Nov. 18, 2004 - Utica Automation, a designer and manufacturer of pressroom automation systems, has announced the availability of its proprietary Oil Reapply System -- an automatic, self-contained, low-pressure air-assisted, oil spray system that provides a controlled, fine layer of lubricant on blanks or coils prior to the stamping process. At only 12-inches in width, the Oil Reapply System can be easily integrated into existing blank or coil washers or used as a stand-alone fluid applicator.

Utica's new system applies even film layers of oil-based and water-based solutions to the top and bottom of sheet metal blanks or coil strip as the material passes through the chamber. The system includes an integrated mist collection ducting within it's polished stainless steel exterior that ensures containment of any volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions.

The Oil Reapply System consists of an upper and lower manifold each housing a bank of patented-design spray nozzles that are optimized to deliver oil films with near zero misting and precise deposition control. Coverage is designated by a zone pattern that spans the top and bottom spray manifold. Nozzles are distributed between multiple upper and lower zones, where each zone is independently controlled through a PLC. Each zone has four simple-to-set, standard spray values that the user can pre-program into part-specific recipe settings of None, Low, Medium or High coverage. Relative to the feed speed, the low setting yields 30mg/ft² while a medium setting yields 60 mg/ft² and the high setting 90 mg/ft². The settings can be customized to deliver a customer-specified value in keeping with a specific application need.

Enclosed in stainless steel that not only looks good, Utica's Oil Reapply System is also easy to maintain. Integrated gas-strut assists are internally mounted on each of the entry and exit access panels that enable unobstructed access to the interior of the chamber. All valving and wiring is also easily accessible through the stainless steel, face-mounted junction boxes.

System size is based upon user specification for coil or blank widths and includes, at a minimum, the self-contained spray chamber, a dual filtration system to ensure pure, virgin fluid, an oil-heating unit and a robust pumping system -- all controlled by an Allen Bradley SLC-5/04 processor provided within a unobtrusive, floor-standing enclosure. Since the system is typically installed into an area where a new or existing blank or coil washer exist, the machine interface is handled through an existing display. Utica Automation's Oil Reapply System also comes standard with mist collection ducting, which includes a collector that moves 800/cfm and provides filtration to remove 98% of 1.8 mm particles
