Odor Control Systems suit various applications.

Press Release Summary:

MICROCAT®-XBS Hydrocarbon Degrader uses thiophilic microorganisms to eliminate rotten egg smell from disturbed oil-filled ponds. MICROCAT-DNT drain and trap cleaner uses same bacteria to oxidize sulfur compounds in plumbing systems. MICROCAT-ECL is a non-microbial, food-grade cleaner/deoderizer. MICROCAT-ANL controls sulfide odors in wastewater treatment plants and sludge processing facilities. MICROCAT-UXL eliminates nitrogenous odors in hospital drains, autopsy rooms, and pedestrian tunnels.

Bioscience Expands Line of Odor Control Products

BETHLEHEM, PA (January 15, 2004) -- Bioscience, Inc. has added to its line of natural odor control products and increased the odor control capacity in its existing product formulations for plumbing maintenance and hydrocarbon degradation.

Odors are generally a nuisance rather than a health hazard. However, odors that migrate off site may subject the site owner to fines for repeated offenses. "Although odors are not necessarily regulated by state or federal agencies, they have become a severe public relations problem in many areas, and we have seen a significant increase in demand for odor control products by restaurants and institutions, wastewater treatment facilities, composting operations and even bioremediation sites", reports Thomas G. Zitrides, President of Bioscience.

"Oil patch cleanup operations often use hydrocarbon-degrading bacterial products to help remediate oil-filled ponds, which may also contain odor-causing sulfur based compounds. By adding thiophilic (sulfur loving) microorganisms to the formula of one of our most widely used products, MICROCAT®-XBS Hydrocarbon Degrader, we can reduce or eliminate the 'rotten egg' smell that occurs when these ponds are disturbed" said Zitrides.

The same types of bacteria have been added to the company's plumbing product including its drain and trap cleaner, MICROCAT®-DNT, to oxidize odor-causing sulfur compounds resulting from oxygen deficient conditions in plumbing systems and sewer lines. The company also offers a natural, non-microbial, food-grade cleaner/deodorizer, MICROCAT®-ECL, for food processing plants where heavy deposits of non-water-soluble materials such as fats and greases may accumulate and generate odors.

Bioscience's most widely used odor control product, MICROCAT-ANL, is applied into wastewater treatment plants, sludge processing facilities and lagoons to control sulfide (rotten egg) odors. A similar product, MICROCAT®-UXL, is used to eliminate nitrogenous odors in hospital drains, autopsy rooms and pedestrian tunnels.
