Nu-Cast Contributes To NASA's Space Technology 5 Mission

Nu-Cast, Inc., 29 Grenier Field Road, Londonderry, NH. As the only approved Aluminum investment foundry supplier for both the NASA Marshall and NASA Goddard Space Flight Centers, Nu-Cast recently supplied Electronic Chassis for the just launched NASA Space Technology 5 mission. This mission consists of three 25 Kilogram (55lb.) nano-satellites that are to orbit in formation, communicate with each other and act as a single system. They will monitor and report on changes in the Earth's magnetosphere (magnetic field). They were launched on March 22nd 2006 on board a Pegasus rocket. The cast aluminum electronic chassis' house the Power, Command & Data Handling Systems for each of the three satellites. Nu-Cast's technology was chosen due the ability to provide thin wall construction, intricate internal features, long term atmospheric integrity and low weight. Future nano-satellite programs could involve 50-100 individual satellites that would be used to take multiple measurements simultaneously for space weather, solar storm and other phenomena.
