Rugged Notebooks, Inc. Introduces Semi-Ruggedized, Sunlight Readable Laptop for $1,499 or $55 per Month

Suited for outdoor and combat applications, the unit offers a cost-effective, highly reliable alternative to conventional laptops

Anaheim, CA. - March 20, 2006 - Rugged Notebooks, Inc., a leading provider of ruggedized notebooks and MIL-STD-810F combat-ready computers, today announced the availability of its Talon notebook computer offering five different processor options for applications ranging from light combat roles to heavy equipment field service.

The unit's transflective LCD display is easily read in direct sunlight and the keyboard is spill resistant. Equipped with both a top and bottom lightweight protective magnesium plate, the unit can withstand vibration and shock. In addition, both the LCD screen and the hard drives are shock mounted to isolate them from punishing blows and vibrations. Exclusive optical disk tray lock prevents unintentional tray eject from drop and vibration. With a starting price under fifteen hundred dollars, Talon is affordable for those who regularly travel for work or pleasure and whose computers consistently undergo rough treatments at airport security check points.

"Talon was designed to offer consumers a powerful, reliable alternative to the conventional laptop," said Alan Shad, president of Rugged Notebooks. "Users are pleasantly surprised at its reasonable price. If you work outdoors, frequently travel or if your computer must endure harsh environments on a continuous basis, Talon is ideally suited for that lifestyle."

When exposed to high ambient light levels, the transflective LCD featured in Rugged Notebooks' Talon is 50% to 70% easier to read than the typical laptop computer screen. The transflective LCD incorporates an innovative technology that optically enhances the readability of the LCD module by reflecting the ambient light behind the LCD module increasing the backlighting.

Featuring a magnesium alloy case, the Talon is available with Intel Pentium M processing (up to 2.26 GHz) with two DDR II SODIMM slots for 256/512/1024MB (Max 2GB). Alternately, the Talon is available with the AMD Turion 64MT28 or Mobile AMD Sempro 2600 + with one DDR333 SODIMM slot for 256/512/1024MB (Max 1 GB). Options include an external 1.44 MB USB floppy drive and a DVD/CD-RW combo drive. The Talon connectivity includes an internal 56Kbps V.90 modem and wireless LAN. Input/Output ports include two USB 2.0, one RS-232 serial port, one RJ-11 modem, and a type II PCMCIA card slot. An optional car adapter with 12-32 VDC input is also available. Additionally, the Talon offers an optional USB touch screen overlay with a stylus for those who prefer direct input on the LCD than using the mouse.

All versions are certified to meet CUL; EU; FCC and UL requirements. Applications for the Talon include sales, construction, field service, cable and pipeline maintenance and plant engineering. Rugged Notebooks users include both government agencies and commercial companies i.e., Boeing, Comcast Cable, GEO Systems U.K., Northrop Grumman, NASA, RACAL Defense Electronics, Southern California Edison, Lockheed Martin, the U.S. Armed Services and the U.S. Air Force and Navy.

Talon is available for purchase or lease directly from Rugged Notebooks and comes with the option of Windows® XP Home or Pro operating systems. Purchases start at $1,499 with substantial quantity discounts available and include a one-year warranty with an optional three-year depot or on-site global warranty. Lease prices start at $55 per month, and at the end of the lease period the Talon may be purchased, returned, or traded in for a newer model notebook computer.
