New Sony Notebook is Ultra-Portable and Well Equipped

Diminutive VAIO TX Model Features Cutting-Edge Materials, Communications and Enhanced Entertainment Capabilities

SAN DIEGO, Sept. 19 / -- Sony's newest feather-weight PC contender combines no-nonsense business functionality and a fashion-forward physique. The VAIO(R) TX notebook packs wireless WAN connectivity, entertainment playback and a white LED display into a slick carbon fiber casing that weighs no more than three pounds.

The carbon fiber chassis of the TX notebook line lends not only lightweight durability but head-turning elegance to this ultra-portable companion. LED backlight technology and newly designed display circuitry gives it a razor thin profile. At 2.8-pounds and less than 1-inch thin, this notebook will slide unobtrusively into your carry-on bag for comfortable computing whether you fly first class or coach.

Integrated WWAN (in most models) ensures you stay connected wherever you go. With access to the Cingular Wireless national EDGE network, you can extend your wireless coverage beyond LAN access and hotspots and get online almost anywhere there is cellular coverage. Sony's SmartWi(R) technology seamlessly toggles between WAN, LAN and Bluetooth technologies, making it easy and efficient to connect wirelessly.

"Sony pioneered the exploration of ultra-light materials such as magnesium and carbon for PC casings and ultra-slim components, as well forward-thinking technology such as integrated wireless WAN to create notebooks that are a joy to carry and add value to your life," said Mike Abary, vice president of VAIO product marketing for Sony Electronics in the U.S.

Stamina for Work and Play
Unparalleled battery life -- 4 to 7.5 hours with a standard battery -- will ensure you have enough power for a full day's work and perhaps some play. An advanced DVD+R double layer/DVD+RW drive and Sony's Instant Mode allow you to watch movies, listen to music or view photos with the touch of a button, without having to boot the machine. The 11.1-inch WXGA widescreen display with XBRITE(TM) LCD technology delivers brilliant colors for stunning multimedia playback, while Dolby Headphone and Virtual Speaker technologies provide surround sound when you're wearing headphones.

The TX series also comes with a full complement of Sony multimedia applications, including SonicStage(TM) Mastering Studio software for managing music in a variety of formats and Click to DVD(TM) software for easy one-click DVD mastering. To make data sharing and transfer a breeze, the notebook also comes standard with a multitude of connector interfaces, including both an i.LINK (IEEE 1394) and USB 2.0 port as well as Memory Stick PRO(TM) and Secure Digital(TM) media slots.

Sony VAIO TX notebooks will be widely available this month in charcoal without WWAN starting at about $2,250 and next month with WWAN for about $2,300. Exclusive colors platinum and slate blue can be purchased online at sonystyle.com or at SonyStyle(R) stores in select fashion malls around the country.
