New-Isolated DC/DC Converters Offer High Precision Voltage Accuracy and 10A Output

SMD point of load devices deliver high accuracy supplies to FPGAs, ASICs, DSPs and MPUs

20th August 2004, Tucson, Arizona - Power conversion and control specialist C&D Technologies has expanded its family of non-isolated, point of load (PoL) DC/DC converters with 16 new devices that offer full load current outputs of 10A and high precision voltages ranging from 0.9V to 3.3V. Designed to address the voltage and current requirements of high-performance FPGAs, ASICs, DSPs and microprocessors, the new NNL10 series of high-efficiency converters is ideal for applications ranging from servers to telecommunications equipment.

The NNL10 DC/DC converters can operate with a voltage input range of 3.0V - 5.5V and are available with output voltages of 0.9V, 1.0V, 1.2V, 1.5V, 1.8V, 2.0V, 2.5V, and 3.3V. Each variant is also offered with an optional 'DC OK' single wire connection. This connection significantly simplifies output sequencing by indicating when the next converter in a daisy-chained sequence can be enabled.

Available in SMD format, the NNL10 converters have industry-standard footprints that make them ideal for both new and existing designs. All of the devices feature high levels of built-in functionality including continuous short circuit protection, under voltage lockout, and overtemperature protection. Output voltage trimming allows designers to adjust the voltage by ±10% of nominal by connection of a resistor or by applying a voltage to the converter's trim pin. In addition, an integrated remote sense function allows the designer to compensate for voltage drops between the output and the load point.

The NNL10 converters are rated for maximum line and load regulation of 1.0% and 0.55% respectively and offer a typical voltage set point accuracy of 1.0%. Operating temperature for the devices ranges from -40°C to 85°C. All of the new converters have a footprint of 33.0 x 13.5mm, and a maximum board-mounting profile of 8.3mm.

Pricing for the new converters is under $8.00 per device in OEM quantities -significantly less than $1 per Amp.
