No Problem Too Hot for Dorner's ESP Program

HARTLAND, Wis., (Nov. 29, 2006) - Where do manufacturers turn when the material they extrude is so hot it adheres to their conveyor's belting material? The cool thinking of Dorner's Engineered Special Product (ESP) program is there to assist.

The chemical engineering lab at Michigan Technological University (MTU) needed to overcome a heat issue faced during an extrusion process, which turned hot polymer strands into pellets. In trial tests, many of the conveyor belts adhered to the extruded material (of which, temperatures reached 350° C) and fibers from the belling material contaminated the extruded strands. The challenge... find a conveyor to handle the high production temperatures while withstanding the constant water spray used to cool the extruded material.

Utilizing a 3200 series frame, the parameters for this ESP Stainless Conveyor include:
o Frame - anodized extruded aluminum
o Conveyor belt - stainless steel
o Max temperature of 350° C
o Height into conveyor (out of extruder) = 40.5'
o Height out of conveyor (into pelletizer) = 51"
o 8" wide
o 10 feet long
o 70 ft./min. to 120 ft./min. conveyor speed
o 120V single phase
o Locking caster stands

Building an aluminum frame conveyor with a stainless steel conveyor belt is part of Dorner's Engineered Special Product program. ESP is a program that pays extra attention to building conveyors with unique dimensions and characteristics above and beyond the dimensions of Dorner's regular conveyor platforms. Instead of building conveyors in-house and from scratch, customers save time and money by letting conveyor experts, such as the team on Dorner's ESP program, handle the project.
