NextComputing Rolls Out Blu-Ray on Portable Workstation Line

Nashua, NH - August 14, 2008 - NextComputing, manufacturers of flextops and rugged portable computers, announces the integration of a Panasonic recordable Blu-Ray drive on its mobile workstations. The superior optical drive is available in place of the internal DVD drive on all mobile computer models, the NextDimension Pro and Pro HD, NextDimension Evo and Evo HD, Vigor Pro SD, and the Vigor Evo HD.

The Blu-Ray format was developed to enable recording, rewriting and playback of high-definition video (HD), as well as storing large amounts of data. The format allows data to be packed more tightly and stored in less space, offering more than five times the storage capacity of traditional DVDs and holding up to 50GB on a dual-layer disc.

"Blu-Ray is becoming essential for anyone who produces video, not only as the format of choice for HD video distribution, but also as an inexpensive, high-capacity backup solution," says Aaron Sherman, Business Development Manager for Broadcast & Digital Media at NextComputing. "With our portable NextDimension systems, you now have the capability to capture, edit, and author HD content directly to the Blu-Ray disc format - all in a mobile system. This could make a real difference for videographers, independent production companies, and event producers looking to generate consumer-ready HD titles quickly and cost-effectively."

Blu-Ray is currently supported by more than 180 of the world's leading consumer electronics, personal computer, recording media, video game and music companies. The format also has broad support from the major movie studios as a successor to today's DVD format. In fact, all of the eight major movie studios (Disney, Fox, Warner, Paramount, Sony, Lionsgate, Universal and MGM) have released movies in the Blu-Ray format. With the adoption of Blu-Ray, NextComputing demonstrates readiness for the evolution of digital media in any form.
