Creform Cart Meets The Challenge of Form, Fit and Function

Greer, SC—Creform Corporation, a manufacturer of unique products for material handling structures has designed and produced a fleet of simple, but effective picking shelf carts for a distributor’s use to better manage parts and supplies for work-in-process. The distributor and Creform collaborated on the most effective design to best make use of form, fit and function. Further, subsequent itterations of the design provided improvements each time to arrive at the most functional cart.

The cart features five horizontal shelves that are easily repositioned and reconfigured if need be. Each shelf features a retaining lip on three sides to help ensure that no ‘picked’ product falls off the shelf. The shelves feature plastic surfaces that provide the correct balance between light weight and strength and since the cart will be pushed all day every day, it was important to keep its weight as low as possible while maintaining the necessary strength and durability. Further, the cart’s open design of the pipe/joint structure lets the user see through the structure for safe operation.

The cart’s dimensions are 24" W x 24" L x 70" T and is designed to hold up to 500 lb. Its small footprint allows easy movement through space restrictive aisles and can be used for warehouse order picking or kitting within a factory. In manufacturing, for example, it can be used to move parts or boxes from one station to another and in warehouses for order picking or kitting.

The cart features four 4" diameter urethane casters with swivel casters at the corners to ensure stability and allow the cart to be pushed down aisles but also easily move laterally for positioning.

Rather than typical handles, the user is free to grab one or two of the corner vertical pipes at a height that is ergonomic and comfortable and can vary that position each time they use the cart. For operator convenience, the cart features a number of hooks to hang tools, clip board and labels as well as a cup holder to be sure user stays hydrated throughout the day.

As with all Creform carts, higher capacity and custom cart sizes and configurations are possible with the Creform system of 28 mm, 32 mm and 42 mm plastic coated steel pipes and metal joints. They can be configured for ESD (anti-static) applications. The component nature of Creform carts provides added value and ensures that if there is any damage or worn components replacement parts are readily available.

Although the cart pictured is shown in bright red, a wide variety of pipe color options are available and upgrade hitches are available for AGV delivery. Accessories include hooks, the previously mentioned label as well as writing surfaces with clip boards to name a few. Creform carts are available as a kit, assembled structure or in component form for a complete DIY solution. Long life, because the adaptability of the cart, remains a fundamental principal of Creform.

The Creform System is used to create an array of material handling and efficiency enhancing devices and is a proven component in continuous improvement and Lean Manufacturing programs. The company partners with customers in developing and implementing these programs.
