Cost-Effective Hazardous Area Safeguarding Increases Personal Protection

Florence, KY: A new family of safety light curtains with IO-Link connectivity is now available for increased safety with easy installation. These devices can be easily and inexpensively connected directly to the Balluff Safety Over IO-Link module, allowing integrators to implement a complete safety and automation sensing and network solution.

Users can choose from finger, hand or body detection versions, covering protective heights from 150mm (6 inches) to 1800 mm (71 inches). These safety light curtains have a compact, robust housing and meet the highest levels of safety required by EN ISO 13849 (PLe) and IEC/EN 61508/62061 (SIL 3).

Balluff safety light curtains can be connected to safety relays, programmable logic modules or safety controllers, and are plug-and-play with the Balluff safety IO-Link I/O module. Wiring is simple thanks to standardized M12 plug connections and off-the-shelf non-shielded cables.

The safety light curtains can be applied in a wide range of applications including point-of-operation guarding of machine openings, area guarding of machine and workcell perimeters. Typical machine applications include robot cells, presses, assembly machines, machine tools, winders and palletizers.
