Original Press Release:

Process Sensor Range Expands

Sensor specialist, ifm electronic, has launched two new sensors for use in process applications – the LI151x-series capacitive level switches and the LDL201 conductivity sensors. MEPCA found out about the two new additions to the company’s range.

Since they have no moving parts, the new LI151x-series capacitive level switches from ifm electronic need no maintenance and are an ideal replacement for conventional float-type level switches that are prone to mechanical failure and sticking in more viscous media. The dependable, maintenance-free operation of the switches increases plant uptime while reducing operating costs.

LI151x level switches are also easy to use – they are pre-programmed for plug-and-play installation with water-based fluids and can be reconfigured in just a few seconds for use with hydraulic and similar oils.

Four versions of the new switches are offered, with probe lengths from 132 to 737 mm. All types have an integrated temperature sensor, two switching outputs and an IO-Link digital interface. Users can configure the switching outputs as either two level outputs, or as one level output and one temperature output which, in many applications, saves money by eliminating the need for a separate temperature sensor. Configuration of the switches can be performed either using the built-in inductive ‘teach’ button or via the IO-Link connection.

Suitable for use even in demanding environments, LI151x level switches have an IP 68; 69K ingress protection rating and an operating temperature range of -25 to +85 ºC. The probe diameter is 16 mm. Accessories include mounting clamps, flanges and adaptors, as well as an extensive range of cables pre-terminated with M12 connectors.

Particularly suited for use in CIP (cleaning-in-place) applications in the food and beverage industries, ifm’s new LDL201 conductivity sensors have a 77mm long sensing tip, making them versatile and easy to install in a variety of hygienic process connections. In addition, the tip features solid PEEK construction, which virtually eliminates the risk of breakage even if the sensor is subjected to high levels of stress.

Typical applications for the new LDL201 sensors include monitoring/control of cleaning agents, checking rinse water for residues and product validation. Since the sensors allow improved process control to be achieved, they typically enable users to cut costs by reducing energy usage during CIP cycles, along with the consumption of water and cleaning agents.

LDL201 sensors have a conductivity measuring range of 100 µS/cm to 1000 mS/cm and feature an integrated temperature sensor. They have a continuous operating temperature of -25 to +100 ºC and a maximum of 150 ºC < 1 hr. They are provided with an IO-Link interface which provides loss- and error-free transmission of measured conductivity and temperature values. IO-Link also allows easy parameterisation, which aids initial set up and makes it quick and easy to adjust settings to accommodate recipe changes.

With food-grade material used for all parts exposed to the media in which they are being used, ifm’s new conductivity sensors meet EHEDG, FDA and 3-A standards. They are available for fast delivery and are complemented by a wide range of accessories. These include welding adapters, clamps, hygienic pipe fittings and pre-terminated connecting cables.
