New Iomega® Desktop Hard Drives Support 'Time Machine' Backup Feature In Mac® OS® Leopard

Mac OS Leopard Users Get Total Data Protection with Iomega® UltraMax(TM) Pro, UltraMax(TM) and MiniMax(TM) Drives

SAN DIEGO, Nov. 8 - Iomega Corporation (NYSE:IOM), a global leader in data protection and security, today announced that the newly shipping Iomega® UltraMax(TM) Pro, UltraMax(TM), and MiniMax(TM) desktop hard drives are seamlessly compatible with Time Machine, the innovative new backup feature in Mac® OS® X Leopard.

Iomega is now shipping worldwide its new Apple-oriented UltraMax Pro, UltraMax and MiniMax hard drives, all of which are automatically recognized by Time Machine as potential backup drives because they are pre-formatted with the Apple HFS+ file system. Connect any of these drives to a computer running Leopard, and the operating system will ask whether to use the new drive as a backup drive. When the user answers 'yes,' Time Machine automatically goes to work, backing up all files as needed to restore the user's computer in case of future data disasters.

Industry observers are singing the praises of Time Machine, calling it a "no-brainer backup system" (MSNBC.com), "The most significant innovation in Leopard" (BusinessWeek), and "Leopard's flashiest new feature" (Chicago Sun-Times).

"Iomega has introduced its broadest lineup of HFS+ hard drives ever this fall, and the timing is excellent for customers with an iMac, MacBook, MacBook Pro, Mac Pro, or Mac Mini computer," said Jonathan Huberman, CEO, Iomega Corporation. "With up to 1.5TB* of capacity for backing up all of your critical files, Iomega UltraMax Pro, UltraMax and MiniMax desktop hard drives are designed to specifically support the Time Machine feature in Leopard, providing users with the best in performance, value, and customer support in the storage business."

Time Machine users can target HFS+ formatted Iomega desktop hard drives as the location for a backup copy of all of their computer's system settings and application data, including photos, music, videos, and presentations. Time Machine also keeps track of incremental changes and takes regular snapshots of new or changed files, allowing the user to restore any file or folder to its previous state. Time Machine can even restore the entire computer or migrate the user's files and settings to a new Mac.
