New Device Relationship Management System Continuously Monitors UPS System Status and Health

COLUMBUS, OH- AMETEK Solidstate Controls has introduced a new Device Relationship Management (DRM) approach that provides users of its Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) Systems with the ability to monitor their UPS and battery systems using a single device, either through their UPS system's communications interface or as a stand-alone unit.

"Our P³ Solutions (PROactive, PREdictive and PREventive) is a logical and important step forward in the evolution of our service business," notes Jim Weathers, Client Services Manager for Solidstate Controls. "Solidstate offers 24/7 aftermarket support to its UPS system customers that includes on-site troubleshooting, repairs and preventive maintanence.

"Now, armed with real-time and historical data on our system's health and performance, we and our customers will be able to make analytical and proactive decisions that will prevent disasters from occurring as well as determine the best way to maintain or increase the life expectancy of their equipment," he adds.

"AMETEK Solidstate Controls offers total power solutions to industrial process and power generation industries," comments George Ardolino, Vice President and Business Unit Manager. "Our clients in these markets are subject to severe consequences, such as lost revenue, employee safety and environmental concerns, if a power problem occurs."

"With our P³ Solutions, our knowledge experts and field service personnel will have access to vital system information no matter where they are located. Our Uninterruptible Power and Battery Management Systems will incorporate a wireless SmartService enterprise monitoring solution from nPhase, a recognized leader in high-value machine-to-machine communications solutions."

The comprehensive, end-to-end nPhase SmartService solution includes secure bi-directional communications over GSM/GPRS and CDMA networks, a hosted application customized to AMETEK's needs, and a 24/7 Network Operations Center. Through a partnership with Beckett LogiSync, a provider of information enabled embedded communications products, the nPhase solution interfaces with the AMETEK UPS control system at the operating system level.

Vital data is transported securely and bi-directionally to centralized information systems with Internet access. Enterprise software tailored to AMETEK needs enables service technicians to proactively administer repairs and adjustments to the UPS system, typically over the phone, creating a more proactively responsive service than was previously possible.
