New Atlas Copco Small GA Compressors Break Air Delivery Records

Re-engineered GA compressors offer world class performance and reduced energy costs

Atlas Copco has re-engineered its range of small GA compressors, 15-40 hp GA+/GA VSD, in order to provide greater energy savings for workshops and industries through a combination of world-class Free Air Delivery (FAD), increased efficiency, a smaller compressor footprint, and lower noise levels.

By combining these enhanced attributes, Atlas Copco is bringing efficiency, productivity, and energy savings to a wide range of small workshops and industries. The improved range of compressors are engineered specifically for assembly and packaging, woodworking, printing, textiles, construction materials, plastics production and molding, automotive assembly, various oil and gas applications and sugar production.

Atlas Copco's engineering breakthroughs have increased FAD from 7 to 17 percent over previous GA models and from 9 to 24 percent for the GA VSD.

All of the Atlas Copco 15-40 hp GA+/GA VSD models are now among the most energy efficient in the industry, with a Specific Energy Requirement (SER) improvement of 3 to 11 percent over previous models and the improvement spans 11 to 13 percent for the GA VSD. A user-friendly, new generation controller operates every model to ensure maximum energy savings and correct servicing intervals. Energy consumption can be reduced even further in the full feature version by integrating the dryer in the unit.

In addition, the new Atlas Copco 15-40 hp GA+/GA VSD models use up to 80 percent less space compared to similar compressors on the market. Additionally, the fixed speed compressors operate at an amazingly low noise level, as silent as 63 dBA. The VSD models are among the most silent in the industry as well.

The low noise levels combined with the small footprint allow manufacturers to place this range of compressors directly on the shop floor, which further increases efficiency by reducing pressure drops.

Customers wishing to calculate the increased air delivery and the reduced electricity consumption resulting from the choice of a new Atlas Copco GA 15-40 hp model should consult with their sales representative.

Greater FAD means that customers can select smaller compressors for the same applications, saving money and energy. A new integrated dryer enhances energy efficiency and air quality simultaneously. Robustness in the line is further improved through high resistance to dust and high temperatures (standard up to 46°C or 114.8°F). All standard models also include intuitive monitoring interfaces, with a robust, high efficiency gearbox, which is completely protected against dirt.

In order to better match air power to customer needs and eliminate the need to oversize, Atlas Copco introduced a 35 hp model, which is also available with the new generation GA 20-35 hp VSD.

GA 20-35 hp VSD

The GA 20-35 hp VSD provides further energy savings of up to 35 percent through use of a Variable Speed Drive. A now-standard option to connect an energy recovery system means that 80 percent of the compressor's energy consumption can be recuperated for other uses. The improved VSD is less sensitive to dust, more energy efficient and very reliable due to optimized cooling circuits. All of this results in faster payback times for the VSD models.

The GA range is complemented by the compact, direct-driven GA 20-30 hp, which now features an upgraded controller.

This launch follows Atlas Copco's introduction earlier this year of the new GA 125-200 hp range of oil-injected compressors with best in class specific energy requirements. These new enhancements underline Atlas Copco's commitment to innovation and to providing energy savings and performance customers can count on.
