Press Release Summary:
Ametek’s 5100P Series Gas Analyzers are based on the non-contact tunable diode laser absorption spectroscopy (TDLAS) sensing technology that enables user to perform water vapor measurements in remote locations. Unit is suitable for monitoring H₂O in natural gas pipelines, processing and fuel lines. The TDLAS technology offers quick response to changes in the moisture content of natural gas. Analyzers are equipped with sample conditioning panel that reduces possibility over pressuring the cell.

Ametek Introduces 5100P Portable Gas Analyzer Based on Tunable Diode Laser Absorption Spectroscopy (TDLAS)
Rugged, Lightweight Moisture Analyzer Delivers Reliable, Accurate Water Vapor Measurement in Natural Gas
PITTSBURGH, PA – AMETEK Process Instruments has broadened its line of 5100 Series gas analyzers to include a portable version. The Model 5100P, based on Tunable Diode Laser Absorption Spectroscopy (TDLAS), provides simple, easy-to-use moisture analysis using tunable diode laser absorption spectroscopy (TDLAS). The durable, lightweight natural gas analyzer is the tool-of-choice for users needing to perform water vapor measurements in remote locations or to verify fixed analyzer installations.
With an integrated sample system, the 5100P is simple and easy to use. A measurement can be made in minutes. Users just need to connect the sample tubing, power up the analyzer, and start the flow through the system. The TDLAS technology in the 5100P delivers immediate response to changes in the moisture content of the natural gas. Users no longer have to wait hours for the sensor to equilibrate and can make more measurements in less time. The 5100P is certified for use in hazardous areas, so there are no costly enclosures or hot work permits needed to operate the analyzer.
The non-contact TDLAS sensing technology means that both the laser source and the detector are kept separate from the process. This eliminates the need for routine calibration, cleaning of the sensor or interferences from process contaminants, increasing measurement uptime and reducing total cost of ownership. To reduce the possibility of over pressuring the cell, or introducing contaminants, an integrated sample conditioning panel is included with the 5100P analyzer.
To ensure the diode laser operates at the right wavelength, a reference is used to prevent any shift in the measurement wavelength. The 5100P, with its high-sensitivity, moisture-specific measurement, will not be impacted by other constituents in the natural gas. Additionally, the reference verifies the measurement, delivering an accurate moisture measurement every time.
Applications for the 5100P include monitoring H2O in natural gas pipelines, processing and fuel lines. The hand-held, battery-powered device provides at least 8 hours of use before requiring a recharge. Its lightweight package simplifies transporting the device between locations.
