BMC Software Helps Harness the Cloud with Dynamic Workload Management

o BMC Control-M automates the management of dynamic and static workloads, assuring business needs are met in physical, virtual and cloud environments

o New solution enables and manages workloads running in the cloud through the use of virtualization technologies

HOUSTON, - Given today's on-demand business cycle, the need for an IT environment that is as dynamic as the business it supports has never been greater. IT organizations need solutions that allow them to dynamically manage workloads to match their ever-changing business priorities.

To address this demand, BMC Software (NASDAQ: BMC) today announced BMC Control-M 7, a new version of the industry-leading solution that automates the management of dynamic and static workloads across applications as well as physical, virtual and cloud platforms, making sure business needs are met - regardless of how complex or unpredictable they may be.

The BMC Control-M 7 solution introduces Dynamic Workload Management, a capability that automatically maps workloads to IT priorities using policies that react to real-time business needs. This new feature enables enterprises to ensure workloads are aligned with business operational cycles, maximizing IT resources and reducing costs.

In addition, BMC Control-M 7 helps harness cloud environments, providing the elasticity needed to cost-effectively support fluctuating workloads. Its ultra-portable product architecture is built for virtual and physical environments, both on- and off-premise, fitting varied IT and business needs. The solution provides the flexibility needed to meet business service levels and priorities by easily enabling a cloud for processing workloads.

Playing a key role in BMC's Business Service Management (BSM) strategy, BMC's Control-M workload automation solution allows customers to automate the execution of processes across the enterprise, which is critical to achieving IT cost reduction. The solution minimizes errors and gives IT a higher level of control and flexibility over their dynamic and scheduled workloads which are increasingly integrated with business services and online processing.

Today more than 2,300 organizations rely on the BMC Control-M solution to support their mission critical workloads. A majority of these customers migrated from other scheduling solutions and roughly half of them consolidated workloads from multiple tools to BMC Control-M. In the 25 years since the product was introduced, these organizations have converted millions of job definitions resulting in more than 50 million job executions per month.

Whether it is a telecommunications giant delivering cellular phone bills in a timely manner, a weather forecaster delivering critical reports for shipping vessels, or a major retailer ensuring that vendor bills and stock are delivered in time, the BMC Control-M solution allows customers across the globe to balance their IT needs with business goals.

"Chicago Board Options Exchange's (CBOE) dynamic trading environment has unique and demanding requirements," said John Strege, director of Capacity and Enterprise Software for CBOE. "BMC Control-M provides us with the 24/7 ability to execute workloads in a timely fashion, thus ensuring superior efficiency of our IT operations. We will be reviewing the features and benefits of BMC Control-M 7, and look forward to enhancements we may be able to implement."

"At Gartner, we estimate that the majority of business processes are performed in batch, rather than in real time," said Milind Govekar, research vice president at Gartner. "Increasingly, many of these mission critical and compliance driven business processes are deployed in a complex IT infrastructure and application environment. This environment is also becoming dynamic due to the interest and adoption of virtualization and cloud computing. Thus, workload automation tools are needed to manage and automate these processes in a complex and dynamic IT environment based on business priorities. IT organizations should benefit from the implementation of these tools to better align their services with business priorities and requirements."

"BMC Control-M 7's new dynamic workload and cloud capabilities along with its new audit and compliance features further strengthens BMC Control-M's position as the industry leading workload automation solution," said Bill Miller, president, Mainframe Service Management, BMC Software. "With features such as Dynamic Workload Automation, cloud and virtualization capabilities, as well as scenario-based recovery and compliance reporting, BMC Control-M 7 provides customers with the best solution to align IT workloads with business needs and reduce costs."
