Five-Port Fast Ethernet/Ethernet Switch from parvus Corp. Now Targets Even Broader Embedded Computing Applications

10/100 Ethernet Switching Hub from parvus Corp. Available in New Configurations to Accommodate Both PC/104 and Other Embedded Systems

SALT LAKE CITY - March 12, 2003 - parvus Corporation today announced that its 10/100 Ethernet Switching Hub is now available in four different configurations to accommodate an even broader array of embedded network control and data acquisition applications. Priced at $134/each in volume orders of 100+ units, this high performance 5-port network switch provides a simple method for networking up to five embedded computing devices with 10BaseT or 100BaseTX Ethernet connections.

Measuring only 3.550" x 3.775" in size, parvus' 10/100 Ethernet Switching Hub now comes in two configurations for PC/104-based systems and two additional models designed to work with potentially any embedded computer environment (Compact PCI, VME, PMC, ETX, DIMM-PC, ISA, etc.). Ethernet connections are made through either onboard RJ-45 jacks or right-angle Molex connectors. The 4-pin Molex headers enable embedded systems to optionally mount RJ-45 jacks in a faceplate or enclosure using an optional parvus cable set.

Each version of this embedded Ethernet switch offers IEEE 802.3 and IEEE 802.3u compliance with five auto-configurable 10/100 transceiver ports and independent Fast Ethernet media access controllers, as well as auto-MDI-MDIX network installation. The board is capable of operating within extended temperature ranges (-40ºC to +85ºC) and provides non-blocking switching performance for all data traffic environments, including backpressure and pause frame flow control schemes.

The two PC/104 models include a standard 104-pin/socket header for making power connection through the PC/104 bus. The other two embedded switch models forgo the PC/104 header and include a 2-pin Molex connector for external power connections. All versions include mounting holes to facilitate simple installation. Potential applications for these products might include machine monitoring, process control, test and measurement, environmental control, remote data acquisition, and communications gateways in avionics/aerospace, defense, factory automation, medical, telecom and transportation fields.
