BTI Photonic Systems Introduces Online Optical Link Engineering Tool

Link Configurator Provides Point-and-Click Design Ease for Network Planners

Ottawa, Canada - BTI Photonic Systems Inc., a global supplier of WDM optical networking solutions for the build-out of new broadband services at the metro edge, announced today the availability of its industry first web-based Link Configurator tool. The Link Configurator, located at www.linkconfigurator.com de-mystifies optical point-to-point link engineering and provides optical network planners with an easy to use online tool to expedite the planning process.

"Largely due to service provider demand for cost and bandwidth efficient deployment options, optical networks are built on a mix and match model comprising equipment from a variety of vendors, each with differing sets of features, interfaces and interoperability capabilities," said Glenn Thurston, Vice President, BTI Photonic Systems Inc. "BTI's Link Configurator tool, compiles all these variables into a centralized library and enables network planners to simply click and simulate their specific environments for rapid pre-planning scenarios and costing options. By providing a platform for in depth span analysis, the Link Configurator enables both accelerated design and cost optimized deployments."

Suited for single channel and DWDM link extension, CWDM and DWDM multiplexing/demultiplexing, and wavelength translation planning, Link Configurator leverages BTI's extensive optical networking expertise in Thin-WDM to provide alternatives to industry accepted network planning conventions. For example, the Link Configurator tool illustrates how by using BTI's Netstender platform, network planners can increase span lengths by up to 50% for 10 Gigabit links and 100% for 2.5 Gigabit links over industry accepted rule-of-thumb standard lengths, at price points significantly lower than legacy solutions. The tool also demonstrates fiber relief multiplexing options at one fifth the cost of traditional tier-1 vendor, large WDM solutions generally available today.

Additionally, Link Configurator acts as an on-line resource providing a number of pre-built design options for access network topologies such as Gigabit Ethernet access rings, hybrid CWDM/DWDM multiplexed networks and multi wavelength DWDM link extension.
The Link Configurator tool provides a state-of-the-art approach to network planning and link engineering in optical networks. It simplifies the network engineering process and reduces design costs and time to efficient deployments.

About BTI Photonic Systems
With a focus on making broadband telecommunications networks more flexible, easier to operate and profitable, BTI Photonic Systems has developed its WDM Netstender(TM) platform, the industry's first optical edge system designed to utilize photonic layer architecture. Netstender consolidates key transport capabilities (DWDM/CWDM, Optical Multiplexing, Amplification, Dispersion Compensation and Wavelength Translation) within a single network element delivering industry leading CAPEX and OPEX savings, high density and future-proof networking capabilities for metropolitan and regional applications. BTI's Netstender addresses the issues of fiber relief, reach extension, 10G, 1G, and metro Ethernet service overlay enabling carriers to deliver new high-speed services while dramatically reducing their costs and increasing their overall market footprint.
