SCM Microsystems Introduces New Network-Based CHIPDRIVE® Time Recording Solution

Network connection enables real-time access to current booking times

FREMONT, Calif., July 2 /- SCM Microsystems, Inc. (NASDAQ:SCMM)(NASDAQ:Prime)(NASDAQ:Standard:)(NASDAQ:SMY), a leading provider of solutions that open the Digital World, today introduced a new network-based version of its popular CHIPDRIVE(R) Time Recording solution that allows small and medium-sized enterprises and public facilities to record and review the current working hours of their employees in real time.

CHIPDRIVE(R) Time Recording Network includes forgery-proof smart cards for 25 employees, which are used as time cards and can be personalized for each employee. Also included is the CHIPDRIVE(R) terminal, which serves as a time clock and connects with the local area network to transfer all clocking data directly to the server. The terminal can be installed on the wall or can be used as a tabletop device with an optional stand. Additional smart card readers can also be added to enable employees to clock in and out from their own desks or work areas. Data can also be transmitted from home offices to the central server via the Internet. CHIPDRIVE(R) Time Recording Network can therefore be used in any small business or enterprise -- in the office, in agencies, factories or production facilities, and en route.

The extensive and powerful software CHIPDRIVE(R) Time Recording ensures that clocking data such as project times, holidays or work absences and special settlements can be quickly and easily analysed and is available right when needed. For example, the holiday view provides a complete view of holidays, sick days and other free days for all employees and allows the reviewer to export them to Windows(R) Excel. Several projects can be classified in activities, to allow additional differentiation and evaluation of project working times.

The CHIPDRIVE(R) terminal includes a simple and intuitive menu and a graphical display that shows the date and the time, current clocking data as well as the time balance of the employee. Individual project numbers can be set using the key pad. In addition, the terminal is compliant with already existing CHIPDRIVE(R) time recording systems, which enables the simultaneous use of the terminal and the mobile battery-operated CHIPDRIVE(R) reader.

CHIPDRIVE(R) Time Recording Network contains everything required to start recording working times for up to 25 employees immediately -- the stationary wall mount terminal to clock employees in and out, a smart card reader to define projects, time parameters and personal data for each user card, the CHIPDRIVE(R) Time Recording software and the user smart cards. All components can be purchased individually, with no additional licencing costs. CHIPDRIVE(R) Time Recording Network can be customized and extended to address the requirements of specific environments. The system also can be extended to include several hundred employees.

Originally sold only in Germany, CHIPDRIVE(R) Time Recording Network is now also available in France, Spain, the UK and the United States in the respective languages. More information about CHIPDRIVE(R) distributors and retailers can be found at http://www.chipdrive.net/.
