Original Press Release:

Agilent Technologies Offers New PNA Series Network Analyzer with Coverage up to 110 GHz

New PNA Capabilities Also Include Pulsed-RF and Antenna Measurements

PALO ALTO, Calif., June 10, 2003 -- Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) today introduced frequency coverage capabilities up to 110 GHz for its flagship PNA Series microwave vector network analyzers, as well as pulsed-RF and antenna measurement. These capabilities, for the first time, enable engineers and system integrators working at millimeter-wave frequencies to take advantage of the powerful performance, connectivity and flexibility of the PNA series for characterizing 1.0 mm coaxial and on-wafer components, subsystems, and systems.

New Millimeter-Wave Capabilities
Specifically developed for radar, electronic-warfare (EW), satellite, broadband wireless, and optical communications, the Agilent N5250A PNA series millimeter-wave network analyzer provides frequency coverage from 10 MHz to 110 GHz in a single sweep, at speeds up to 44 times faster than the industry-standard Agilent 8510XF network analyzer. With two built-in sources, 32 measurement channels, 64 traces, and 16,001 points per channel, the N5250A surpasses other solutions -- including the Agilent 8510 family -- by providing the following:
o fast measurement speed: 200 microseconds per point;
o wide dynamic range: 88 dB, at 110 GHz; and
o significantly smaller form factor and test heads than other solutions.

The N5250A PNA and the entire series of microwave PNA instruments are based on the Windows® 2000 operating system, which makes operation and programming simple, and provides a powerful environment in which easy-to-use measurement functions and PC capabilities are seamlessly linked. In addition, the new millimeter-wave PNA has linkages to Agilent's Advanced Design System (ADS) and IC-CAP modeling software.

Pulsed-RF Measurements
Agilent also introduced pulsed-RF capability for its 20, 40, 50, and 67 GHz PNA network analyzers. Average and point-in-pulse measurements are essential for radar and EW components, subsystems and systems. Agilent's Option H08 pulsed-RF measurement capability, combined with Option H07 IF access, augments the PNA's average-pulse measurement capability by adding internal receiver gates to enable point-in-pulse testing with pulse widths smaller than 100 ns. A test set including an RF modulator, amplifier and directional coupler is also available for creating pulsed-RF signals.

Antenna Measurements
Agilent also introduced antenna measurement capabilities up to 110 GHz. With Option H07 IF access, antenna test professionals can use an external 8.33 MHz IF, bypassing the PNA's internal first converter to achieve maximum sensitivity while remote mixing for antenna measurements. By combining IF access with frequency-offset capability and advanced triggering that supports synchronization with external signal generators, users can attain exceptionally accurate antenna and radar cross section (RCS) measurements faster than previously possible. Pulsed antenna measurements to 67 GHz are also achievable using Option H08.

"Our new millimeter-wave, pulsed-RF and antenna capabilities demonstrate our continuing commitment to applications traditionally served by the Agilent 8510 network analyzer family," said Pat Byrne, vice president and general manager of Agilent's RF and Microwave Business unit. "The flexibility of the PNA series, coupled with its state-of-the-art performance and connectivity, allow design engineers and system integrators to quickly and easily adapt the PNA to their evolving needs."

On-Wafer Measurements
The N5250A millimeter-wave PNA can be integrated easily with Cascade Microtech's Summit series analytical probe station, Infinity 110 GHz probes, calibration standards, and calibration and measurement software for a stable, repeatable on-wafer millimeter wave measurement system. Cascade Microtech, an Agilent channel partner, is a worldwide leader in providing high frequency and parametric on-wafer test solutions.

Agilent also offers the E8361AH11 67 GHz PNA, which can be later upgraded to 110 GHz. Software asset protection with code-conversion tools and consulting services is also available for customers wanting to upgrade from their current Agilent 8510 systems to the N5250A 110 GHz PNA.
