ND SatCom Awarded Cutting Edge SNG Project from Major US Broadcaster

Friedrichshafen, August 17, 2006 - ND SatCom, an SES ASTRA company and a leading global supplier of satellite-based broadband VSAT, government, defence and broadcast communications network solutions, was awarded a strategically important project from a leading US broadcaster for its new broadcast workflow automation solution smartSNG. The project's volume includes in its first phase twelve SNG vehicles equipped with smartSNG in 2006 plus a potential for 100 more within the next five years. Furthermore, ND SatCom is providing a complete media network solution which links together the customer's ten owned and operated TV stations with the SNG vehicles.
Starting with the newsroom, the integrated system smartSNG automates and streamlines SNG operations such as the planning and booking of production resources at remote and mobile sites; the booking of uplink equipment; of satellite transponder capacity and the control of all equipment online. The smartSNG solution brings a wealth of benefits to US broadcasters and helps them to overcome many communication challenges such as the loss of microwave spectrum and the need to migrate from microwave-based ENG to SNG. Additionally, there have been many critical accidents during ENG operations throughout the past few years in the USA due to overweight vehicles with heavy masts or masts which accidentally hit overhead power lines.
