Raymarine Gets 'SIRIUS' About Marine Weather

Raymarine E-Series Displays Now Deliver Real-Time Weather Forecasts from SIRIUS Satellite Radio's New Marine Weather Service

MERRIMACK, N.H. and MIAMI, Feb. 16 - Miami International Boat Show -- Raymarine, Inc., a world leader in marine electronics, today announced the availability of on-demand access to detailed weather forecast information from SIRIUS Satellite Radio via Raymarine's E-Series high performance multifunction navigation displays. This marks the first time that SIRIUS' satellite weather service has been integrated into marine electronics products.

"We see compatibility with SIRIUS Satellite Radio as a step in the right direction for revolutionizing the way boaters receive information on the water," said Terry Carlson, president of Raymarine. "Just as SIRIUS has altered the landscape of the listening experience, Raymarine has redefined the boating experience, and this offering is the latest demonstration of both companies' commitment to arming a broad consumer audience with premier and advanced technologies."

Using the new Raymarine SR100 satellite weather receiver module, boaters now have a range of advanced forecast information right at their fingertips, including the WSI NOWRad(R) weather radar, storm tracks, sea surface temperature, wind, surface pressure, wave heights, lightning, and much more. In addition, the powerful E-Series multifunction navigation interface enables captains to view and animate weather forecasts in a full screen or within a window alongside radar, chartplotter and fishfinder functions. The SR100 weather receiver module is also compatible with Raymarine's SeaTalkhs network, enabling multiple E-Series displays to access weather forecasts simultaneously.

"We're pleased to launch the new SIRIUS Marine Weather service in conjunction with Raymarine," said Larry Pesce, senior vice president of services for SIRIUS. "Boaters across the country will now have access to high quality and comprehensive weather information available over Raymarine's E-Series products."

Available for purchase only in the U.S., SIRIUS Marine Weather Service coverage includes the 48 contiguous states, most of Canada, Mexico and waters extending hundreds of miles into the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean. A monthly SIRIUS Marine Weather subscription is required to receive forecasts onboard.

The SR100 weather receiver module for Raymarine E-Series is expected to be available in March 2006.

In addition to offering customers access to SIRIUS Satellite Radio's Marine Weather Service, Raymarine is furthering its commitment to safety on the seas by incorporating AIS display technology into both its C-Series and E-Series displays. This AIS integration allows boaters to identify and track vessels in their surrounding area over a chart or radar screen. AIS uses digital radio signals to broadcast real-time information between vessels and shore-based stations via dedicated VHF frequencies, providing collision avoidance data. AIS augments radar applications by having the ability to operate in radar blind spots and detect smaller AIS fitted-vessels. Additionally, an AIS receiver provides considerable additional information for a boater -- like vessel size, name, cargo, which may be useful in preventing collisions.
