National Corporate Research Converges Network Capabilities with Time Warner Telecom's Multi-Site IP VPN

NEW YORK, July 16 -- Time Warner Telecom Inc., (NASDAQ:TWTC), a leading provider of managed voice and data networking solutions for businesses, today announced the successful installation of an 8-site IP-based Virtual Private Network (IP VPN) for National Corporate Research (NCR) of New York. NCR provides corporate regulatory document-filing search and retrieval services.
"Our research had shown that a key element to a successful deployment was having a provider who could deliver reliable IP circuits with Class of Service (CoS) capabilities," said Dusty Carnahan, chief information officer for National Corporate Research. "Our Time Warner Telecom IP VPN solution does that. It has also improved our ability to successfully deploy our VoIP."
Time Warner Telecom's IP VPN network solution entirely replaced an inefficient network comprised of differing communication technologies that did not work well together. The company has realized a significant productivity boost from its new solution. "Early on, our employees appreciated the benefits of the new VoIP application," added Carnahan. "They can dial numbers right from their desktop with a mouse click and forward voice mails as if they were an email. Many NCR employees travel a great deal, so with VoIP service over our IP VPN, they can make calls and send emails just as if they were at their desk."
NCR also contracted for Ethernet Internet services (EIS) and collocation services from Time Warner Telecom in Albany. "One major benefit of using collocation space has been the ability to consolidate seven separate Internet firewalls and routers down to one," added Carnahan. "The simplification of network elements cuts down on administration and ongoing maintenance costs and it also allows us to meet our regulatory requirements."

Class of Service enables companies to prioritize the routing of IP data packets as they deem appropriate. Multiple network applications that are competing for the same network resources can be prioritized with 5 service classes. For example, by ranking voice communications above data, businesses avoid dropped or garbled calls.
