Multiviewer monitors multiscreen platforms, DVB networks.

Press Release Summary:

Multiviewer and content monitoring solution, BMM-810, decodes and monitors video streams in H.265/HEVC format. HEVC upgrade enables use even for initial field tests, and GMIT also provides users with professional equipment for commercial implementation. Regardless of codecs used, multiviewer displays up to 36 broadcast or multiscreen programs on one screen. Content errors as well as general decoding errors, are detected automatically and displayed as well as reported.

Original Press Release:

Solution from GMIT Supports HEVC Formats for Monitoring Multiscreen Platforms and DVB Networks

The well-established BMM-810 multiviewer and content monitoring solution now also decodes and monitors video streams in H.265/HEVC format, which is the successor to the H.264 standard. The HEVC upgrade makes it possible to use the BMM-810 even for initial field tests. GMIT also provides users with professional equipment for commercial implementation.

Munich — The new video codec saves up to 50 % on bandwidth, making it a very appealing solution for multiscreen services as well as for transmitting high-resolution broadcast programs. To provide operators with the best possible support during implementation, GMIT uses technology developed by the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute, enabling the BMM-810 software to deliver the utmost in quality and compliance with standards.

Regardless of the codecs used, the multiviewer displays up to 36 broadcast or multiscreen programs on one screen, providing operating staff with a good overview of the state and quality of all programs. Content errors such as still images and audio silence as well as general decoding errors are detected automatically and displayed, and are also reported to a master management system via SNMP. Errors and quality degradation in compression or transmission are therefore identified more quickly and reliably.

The GMIT BMM-810 is equipped with common broadcast interfaces such as TS over IP, ASI and SDI for the input interfaces. The HLS, RTMP, HDS and HSS protocols are supported for multiscreen applications; these protocols can be monitored both in the return reception path and when they are uploaded to a CDN server. The BMM-810 supports mixed operation between broadcast and multiscreen programs, offering operating staff systematic monitoring of all transmitted programs.

All programs are combined in a mosaic view after reception. The mosaic picture is output via a DVI interface or, as an option, via a re-encoded IP stream in full HD resolution. This option eliminates the need for expensive DVI signal distribution and makes it possible to bridge long paths to the screen with an IP connection. A proprietary, highly optimized rendering engine is used for visualization, ensuring that all programs are played back fluidly even when the system is running at full capacity. In addition to video and audio bars, the BMM-810 optionally displays a wide range of program-specific auxiliary information, providing an overview of the state of all program components.

The GMIT BMM-810 with HEVC support is now available from GMIT GmbH. GMIT is a Rohde & Schwarz subsidiary and has been developing products and solutions for broadcasters since 2007.
