Multi-Tech Announces Revamped Internet Security Products

MINNEAPOLIS, May 2/Complete RoHS Compliant RouteFinder Line Includes New Hardware, Software and Performance Features

Multi-Tech® Systems, Inc., a leading data communications and telecommunications technology company based in suburban Minneapolis, announces the revamping of the company's entire RouteFinder(TM) Internet security appliance line to the next generation of products. Changes include higher performance hardware, the addition of performance-enhancing features and the same software core providing commonality of user interfaces and capabilities across the whole product line. The updated line of products meets the requirements of the RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) initiative and is now shipping.

At the SMB end of the product line a more robust processor, added memory and flash drive are combined with several performance-enhancing features.

Features such as QoS/Bandwidth allocation allows customizing WAN port capacity to match protocol requirements, dual WAN load balancing enables two separate ISP connections to be used to better handle traffic distribution, and high availability allows two RouteFinder units to act in conjunction with each other permitting an automatic fail over standby system for continuous operation should one fail.

At the SOHO end of the product family there are new features, a new processor with better performance, plus a new model with the dual WAN capability. The new software uses the same user interface as in the enterprise models with many of the same capabilities such as more advanced packet filtering rules, a more secure firewall, flexibility to control remote admin access, and more complete user logging.

"This is a complete overhaul of our RouteFinder Internet security appliances," states Chip Harleman, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Multi-Tech Systems, Inc. "Since we had to start with an essentially new hardware platform to meet the RoHS requirements, the best course of action was to do a complete remake of the product line thereby advancing all aspects of the technology. That meant starting with a more powerful processor, adding memory, using a solid state disk design, and using common software bringing more versatility and capability to all models. All this is being done to meet the changing requirement of Internet security and to make sure we support our users with the most complete line of security products that we can provide."
