Multi-Service Platform supports M-CMTS and DOCSIS 3.0.

Press Release Summary:

Designed to support multiple video and DOCSIS-based services, field upgradeable Model D5 Universal Edge QAM (UEQ) accommodates 72 QAMs per 2 RU chassis. Operator can choose between quad bonding ratio of 4 QAM channels per RF port and hex bonding ratio of 6 QAM channels per RF port to mix and match QAM capacity to network configuration needed on channel-by-channel basis. Flexible, multi-service platform can also support VoD, SDV, and broadcast.

Original Press Release:

ARRIS D5(TM) Universal Edge QAM to Expand Capacity to 72 QAMs per Chassis, Significantly Lowering Cost per QAM Channel

SUWANEE, Ga., June 27 -- ARRIS (NASDAQ:ARRS) today announced that the QAM capacity of its D5 Universal Edge QAM (UEQ) will increase by 50% from 48 QAMs per 2 RU chassis to 72 QAMs per 2 RU chassis as part of the D5's planned Release 2.3, available for shipment in the latter part of 2007. This increased density is achieved via a simple software upgrade and will result in significantly lowering the cost per QAM channel.

The field upgradeable, next-generation D5 UEQ is designed to support multiple video and DOCSIS-based services of the future, which cannot be said of many current legacy single purpose video QAMs. This convergence of services means long-term CAPEX savings to operators since they will be able to do more with the ARRIS next-generation QAM than can be done with the single purpose QAMs now being deployed by other vendors.

An added advantage of the D5 UEQ's increased density is that an operator can choose between Quad Bonding ratios (4 QAM channels per RF port) and Hex Bonding ratios (6 QAM channels per RF port) to be able to mix and match QAM capacity to the network configuration needed on a channel by channel basis. The D5 needs only software upgrades to the D5 QAM and WAN modules, so an operator can start with quad bonding and convert to hex bonding if needed.

"The ability of the D5 to increase capacity through a simple software upgrade is another example of the inherent flexibility of the D5 Universal Edge QAM's architecture," said Mike Caldwell, ARRIS Senior Director of Product Management. "Our FPGA-based signal processing engines provide the scalability and field upgradeability that are highly valued by next generation QAM users."

The ARRIS D5 Universal Edge QAM is a highly dense and flexible multi- service platform that can support VoD, SDV and Broadcast today, and is ready for M-CMTS and DOCSIS 3.0 functionality with a simple software upgrade. It is also currently capable of QAM sharing, which allows all of those applications to be supported within one QAM channel simultaneously.
