Multi-National Chemical Company Awards HPI the Design and Remanufacture of Two Turbine Generators

Houston, Texas - HPI, LLC, a leader in the supply of turbine control solutions and turnkey power plants, announced today the award of a project to design and remanufacture the Intermediate Gear Box on two BBC GT11-D5 gas turbine generators. The project was awarded by a multi-national chemical company with operations in Plaquemine parish and will be performed on a captive power station for a chemical plant. The project is scheduled to be completed in fall 2011.

As part of the project, HPI will also be designing and installing a clutch assembly allowing the conversion of the two 70MW generators to a synchronous condenser. The existing control system will be retained and HPI will be adding field devices to the gear box.

"The company's strengths in mechanical refurbishment and our experience in both turbine controls and mechanical systems were key reasons HPI was selected for the project," says Thaddeus Berry, Business Development manager for HPI. "This project is also the largest turbine generator set to be configured as a synchronous condenser. Working closely with the customer and other service providers, the project will be performed by the HPI Mechanical and Controls groups. The resources are in place, and we look forward to a successful project."
