Weidmuller's swifty®--the Cutting Tool for Screwdrivers

IDC connection technology and the swifty® set-signal cable wiring at the speed of Formula 1

RICHMOND, VA (September 20, 2002) - Weidmuller has broken new ground in wiring technology with its multi-function tool, the swifty® set. Fast, reliable and easy to use, the swifty® set is an innovative combination of two tools: a unique cutting tool and a screwdriver that enables users to tighten/loosen screws, cut cable to length, and connect, all without changing tools. The swifty® is able to cut solid copper conductors up to 16AWG and flexible conductors up to 14AWG. The automatic opening of the cutting blade ensures tireless and fast operation.

Particularly Suited for IDC Terminals
The swifty® is particularly suited for working with IDC2 quick connection technology (Insulation Displacement Connection). Mounted on a screwdriver, the swifty® cutting unit allows wiring tasks to be completed extremely fast, saving 75% of installation time compared with conventional connection technology. Time and cost intensive work, such as stripping insulation and crimping ferrules, are no longer required with this fast, innovative insulation displacement connection technology. The user simply places the conductor into the opened terminal point, closes the slider using the screwdriver blades, and after the terminal point is closed, cuts the conductor to size using the swifty® cutting device.

This innovative cutting device has been designed for both right- and left-handed users. As with all of Weidmuller's cutting tools, the cutting quality of the swifty® is impressive; slicing the conductors cleanly and precisely without deforming the conductor.

The swifty® set can be used as a supplementary tool for practically all types of terminal blocks, including the Z-series terminals with tension clamp connection technology and the W-series with screw technology.

The swifty® cutting device can be ordered individually or as a set (swifty® and screwdriver). The swifty® can be fitted onto any screwdriver with a maximum 3.5-mm diameter, non-insulated shaft.
