Bookham to Launch 2.5GB/s TOSA at ECOC 2007
New TOSA expands Bookham discrete optics portfolio
SAN JOSE, Calif., - September 10, 2007 - Bookham, Inc. (Nasdaq: BKHM), a leading provider of optical components, modules and subsystems, is to launch an MSA compatible 2.5Gb/s transmit optical subassembly (TOSA), expanding its existing portfolio of discrete optics. The TOSA will be on display for the first time on the Bookham stand (number 17049) at ECOC 2007.
The next generation TOSA is designed as an in-feed to the growing TDM, CWDM and DWDM SFP markets, and can also be used to replace 14 pin butterfly direct modulated lasers (DML) on card applications. Incorporating the Bookham buried hetrostructure laser - of which over 500,000 have been shipped in the last five years - the company's TOSA technology has proven its reliability in the Bookham DWDM SFP module.

The TOSA has a transmission capability of 125Mb/s to 5.3Gb/s over 1600 to 6000ps/nm dispersion, with low penalty and high extinction ratio of >10dB. At OC48 data rate it has a reach of up to 360km in the C band and 200km and the L band.
The new TOSA expands the Bookham discrete optics portfolio, which also includes an XMD MSA compliant ROSA. It is set for commercial availability in November 2007.
During ECOC, Bookham Chief Engineer Robert Keys will take part in the Market Focus Seminars, presenting on the emergence of electro-optic devices to drive network capacity growth. The presentation will take place on Tuesday 18th at 12:00 in the Market Focus arena on the exhibition floor.
