Motorola HC700 Series Brings Presence to Enterprise Workers with Microsoft Office Communicator Mobile

Windows Mobile(TM) collaboration experience enhances and extends enterprise seamless communications from the front office to the field

LAS VEGAS, April 4 -- Motorola, Inc. (NYSE:MOT) announced today that its HC700 series rugged mobile computing devices will be the first to support Microsoft Office Communicator Mobile for Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2005. Leveraging Microsoft's trusted Windows Mobile software platform and Communicator Mobile, Motorola HC700 series devices are designed to provide enterprise field users with more secure, flexible, real-time communications that enable true seamless mobility.

"In an age where workforces are increasingly mobile and global, it is imperative to seamlessly extend secure, rich, real-time collaboration solutions to help people stay in touch with customers, partners and colleagues," said Rod Guy, director of Mobile Computing Operations for Motorola. "We will be working closely with Microsoft to empower mobile workforces with real-time communications capabilities on HC700 series products and future devices."

The first commercial off-the-shelf rugged handheld mobile computing solution from Motorola, the HC700 series is designed to meet the rigorous demands of mobile workforces in a variety of industries, including field force automation, field sales, direct store delivery, transportation, logistics, manufacturing and public safety. The addition of Windows Mobile collaboration capabilities on HC700 devices will deliver added functionality and connectivity to field users.

Live Communications Server's presence functionality enables workers to quickly find and collaborate with coworkers, partners and customers to share critical and time-sensitive information. Presence awareness eliminates delays in locating and communicating with key work partners, helping customers make better, more informed business decisions faster and share ideas and information immediately, regardless of location. The Live Communications Server architecture was built using the industry-standard protocol stack of SIP and SIMPLE, giving developers the ability to add presence to existing applications and create useful presence-aware solutions.

"Enterprise-grade real-time collaboration solutions are playing an increasingly important role in helping information workers stay in touch with critical business contacts and make better decisions, faster," said Eric Swift, senior director for the Unified Communications Group at Microsoft. "Working with industry leaders such as Motorola, enables our joint customers to realize the full benefit of unified communications. Extending and enhancing the Live Communications Server experience, from the desktop to mobile devices with Microsoft Office Communicator, enables unified communications across PCs, phones and mobile devices so people can collaborate more effectively and efficiently."

Motorola and Microsoft will demonstrate the capabilities of Communicator Mobile for Live Communications Server on Motorola HC700 products in conjunction with the CTIA Conference, April 5-7 (Booth #2606) at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
