Motorola Announces Point-to-Point 49400 Wireless Ethernet Bridge for Public Safety Sector

New broadband offering enables reliable communications for fire, police, emergency medical technicians and other first responders

ORLANDO, Fla., Aug. 7 -- APCO, Booth # 842 --Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) today announced its Point-to-Point (PTP) 49400, a wireless Ethernet bridge specifically tailored for use in the 4.9 GHz spectrum, which is exclusively used by the public safety sector. The PTP 49400, a component of Motorola's MOTOwi4(TM) portfolio of wireless broadband solutions and services, gives different agencies the mission critical reliability and high bandwidth required to communicate during times of crisis
and uncertainty.

In addition to 99.999 percent reliability, the new Motorola PTP 49400
delivers increased bandwidth for applications such as on-scene streaming
video, Internet and database access, and transfers of large files such as
maps, blueprints, medical files and missing-person images. The PTP 49400 also
efficiently handles backhaul for wireless networks and temporary fixed point-
to-point links, providing a cost-effective solution for T1 replacements and a
4.9 GHz solution for backhauling fixed video surveillance networks.

"The public safety sector is increasingly using wireless networks for
vital communications during times of disaster and duress," said Phil Bolt,
general manager, Motorola's Point-to-Point Wireless Solutions Group. "The new
Motorola PTP 49400 is expressly designed to provide reliable communications,
where fast response is not optional, but a life or death requirement. The PTP
49400 also facilitates the sharing of crucial information between emergency
services agencies so first responders can make more informed decisions."

The PTP 49400 provides carrier-class broadband and offers the public
safety sector the following features:

o Reliable Non-Line-of-Sight connectivity for high-interference areas,
like densely populated urban environments, and long-distance
Line-of-Sight connectivity for sparsely populated regions or over
large bodies of water
o High data throughput of up to 35 Mbps for applications moving
high-bandwidth voice, video and data traffic
o Proprietary over-air scrambling mechanism and optional AES encryption
security
o High QoS levels achieved using urgent traffic prioritization and a
self-selecting clear channel with intelligent Dynamic Frequency
Selection
o Rapid deployment via a pre-configured "hop in a box," easy audio
alignment and software-defined remote management

Motorola will showcase the PTP 49400 in Booth #842 at the 72nd APCO
(Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials) International
Conference & Exposition 2006 being held at the Orange County Convention Center
in Orlando Aug. 6-10.
