Motorized Actuators have 50 mm travel range.

Press Release Summary:

LTA series motorized micrometer replacement actuators utilize DC motors with high-resolution encoders, which provide precise, closed-loop operation with minimal incremental motion of 50 nm. They have parallel motor and non-rotating drive shaft configuration and include user-adjustable limit switches. Model LTA-HS provides speeds up to 5 mm/sec, while LTA-HL is optimized for high load applications. Vacuum compatible versions of both models are available.

Newport Unveils New line of LTA Long Travel Motorized Actuators

Irvine, California - October 17, 2003 - Newport Corporation announces the launch of the new LTA series of motorized micrometer replacement actuators. The LTA series actuators are the first to combine both high resolution (50 nm) motion and a very long range of travel (50 mm) in a novel, compact package. Moreover, the LTA offers a significant increase in speed over other high resolution actuators.

LTA actuators are primarily intended for use in benchtop opto-mechanical systems in research laboratories, R&D programs, and test & measurement applications. They readily mate with most of Newport's extensive family of translation and rotation stages to enable automated, remote control operation. Typical uses include focusing laser beams, adjusting beam position, and automated optimization of laser cavity optics.

The new LTA series utilize a DC motor with a high resolution encoder, which provides precise closed loop operation, with a minimal incremental motion of 50 nanometers. Also, the overall size of the actuator is much smaller than competitive products, due to the unique parallel motor and drive shaft configuration. And, unlike many other high resolution actuators, the LTA series feature a non-rotating drive shaft which ensures maximum motion linearity and avoids long term wear to the stage. The utility and flexibility of the LTA series is further enhanced by the incorporation of hard, user-adjustable limit switches, which is a critical advantage in applications where extended motion could cause damage.

Two different versions of the LTA are offered. The LTA-HS is optimized to provide the highest possible speed (up to 5 mm/sec). The LTA-HL is optimized for high load applications, such as vertical motion of highly loaded stages. Vacuum compatible versions of both models are available enabling operation to 10-6 Torr.
